Director Christina Voros and producer James Franco pull back the curtain on the fetish empire of Kink.com, the Internet's largest producer of BDSM content. In a particularly obscure corner of an industry that operates largely out of public view, Kink.com's directors and models strive for authenticity. In an enterprise often known for exploitative practices, Kink.com upholds an ironclad set of values to foster an environment that is safe, sane, and consensual. They aim to demystify the BDSM lifestyle, and to serve as an example and an educational resource for the BDSM community. In kink, we discover not only a fascinating and often misunderstood subculture, but also, in a career far from the mainstream, a group of intelligent, charismatic, and driven people who really, truly love what they do.

AwardsCircuit.comTerence JohnsonI've never left a documentary so informed about a subject I had no idea I wanted to be informed about.
Film Journal InternationalEthan AlterKink may ultimately be too slight to rank as a great documentary, but it does suggest the arrival of a great documentary filmmaker.
New York TimesJeannette CatsoulisA fascinating profile of the online pornography provider Kink.com.
HeyUGuysTy Cooperkink wonderfully achieves its goal of lightly educating and demystifying the world of BDSM, but for people that are already familiar with this world, you may find yourself left wanting.
New York Daily NewsElizabeth WeitzmanThere’s a surprising lack of provocation to this determinedly positive portrait. As a result, the movie often feels like a full-length ad for a great workplace, which just happens to stash whips and chains in the stationery closet.

User ReviewAlex WWith a subversive topic such as BDSM, it was never going to be easy to make a film that would appeal to a mainstream audience about a topic hugely underground. C. Voros and J. Franco manage to depict a world of exploration, sexual fantasies and overall succeed t humanize the protagonists. It's not for everyone but it's definitely a very well done documentary about a subject I personally had no insight on previously. This documentary made me rethink the way I perceive some sexual practices and questions the rigid education that one grow up with. Self experimentation / exploration is after all a huge part of our personal path during our lifetime. If some people find a meaning, happiness and fulfillment in these practices, bless them. It may not be for everyone but I salute the effort to desacralize and de-demoniozed such subject.
User ReviewHéliø LThis journey into the underground world of BDSM comes courtesy of producer James Franco and would have benefited greatly if it branched out of the studios of the largest producer of online bondage and S&M porn in the world for a little more insight. It all feels a bit biased and too friendly when no real tough questions are ever asked. Audiences are likely to be surprised by the artistic dedication and camaraderie going on in this highly unusual workplace. (It is also likely they'll want to stick to their current jobs!) A few misconceptions and stigmas about this taboo subject may also be broken, but in the end I was still left wondering why would having a giant phallic drill going inside anyone so violently would be apparently the fantasy of so many millions of people and the driver of so many millions of dollars. A curious and quite entertaining doco that is not for the faint of genitalia. Yes, humans were hurt in the making of this, but remember they liked it. Just don't expect to understand why.
