Stream on DemandSean AxmakerTerse and tough, Kansas City Confidential is one of the great lean, mean B crime thrillers...
Goatdog's MoviesMichael W. Phillips, Jr.It's a decent film, but its payoff just isn't up to the level of its buildup.
Slant MagazineEric HendersonPhil Karlson's rote heist-revenge flick aims to be stone cold, but can't seem to get any frost to grow around its warm, mushy heart.
Film SnobberyPhil HallIf Kansas City Confidential was a meal, it would consist of a plate full of spice - but no meat.
User ReviewAshley HKansas City is an excellent film. It is about an ex-con trying to go straight who is framed for a million dollar armored car robbery. John Payne and Coleen Gray give amazing performances. The screenplay is well written. Phil Karlson did a great job directing this movie. I enjoyed watching this motion picture because of the drama and mystery. Kansas City Confidential is a must see.
User ReviewBen HNothing like an engaging film noir! I couldn't look away!
User ReviewJeffrey JThis is a classic film Noir. Love seeing "Lee Van Cleef" in his younger days. Not a lot of lines for the big guy. But still a presence. IMDB states 99 mins, but the version I saw seemed more like 70 mins. Still very enjoyable. I Highly Recommended!
User ReviewDoug JA B-noir so intricately and smoothly assembled that it rises above its origins, Kansas City Confidential sparingly uses to noir angles or lighting. Instead, it drapes itself in the ambiguity, the gray themes of the genre in a wonderfully convoluted story of a man wrongly accused of a heist. Wonderful performances across the cast make this a great, unadorned feature.
User ReviewDavid COne of many classic film noirs that I enjoy. I can't list them all so I picked this one. Plot, plot, and more plot. Plots are something that have been forgotten....
User ReviewPrivate UFantastic film noir, with elements that influenced Tarantino, including a heist where the crew remains anonymous to each other, as well as the use of extreme close up shots, not to mention a trio of slimey cons that includes Jack Elam, Lee Van Cleef and Neville Brand. Phil Karlson's direction was very innovative for 1952 and the screenplay is full of surprises
