User Review - 8/10 by David ERare Film Noit for Both MGM and Taylor. A little tedious at first. But, picks up steam. Outstanding cast. Including an Oscar performance for Van Heflin. Lana Turner is dumbstruck in love with Taylor.. Taylor(Johnny Eager) is a career gangster. who has just been released from prison. Johhny takes on a job as a cab driver. But, soon after finds himself back in comfortable surroundings. Playing nice wiith The Mob again. Johnny decides to open a dogtrack. Of course, with the assistance of his past associations. Johnny is faced with internal conflict. A Paradox. On one hand attempting moral compass. On the other, resorting to the comfortable dirt..Jeff (Heflin) plays the drunk and loyal foil to Johnny(Taylor)Someone who truly cares for Johnny as a human being.

User Review - 8/10 by Nicola MIt was hard for me to believe that Robert Taylor was playing a gangster but as the movie progressed I started to see he was able to pull the role off really well. He wasn't anywhere as good as Cagney but not a bad crook. Van Heflin as Johnny's friend was a great add to the film. Great performances from all of the cast.
User Review - 8/10 by jay nEntertaining film about a gangster Robert Taylor who's pretending to be acting good for his parole officer but is actually up to his old tricks and along the way he manages to fall in love with Lana Turner. A great script filled with good acting, including Van Hefflin in a worth Supporting Actor win as Taylor's alcoholic friend. I liked a lot of the twists throughout. Worth a look.
