VarietyLisa KennedyFlashes of craft can’t make up for the director’s easy default to gore over story. Forbes and his co-writer knew how they wanted to depict Hell’s sadism but never nailed how to embrace the hero with the hammer.
The Hollywood ReporterJohn DeForeClearly qualified in the physique department, Crews is an actor with enough charisma and range to carry either gritty genre adventures or more cartoony showdowns; but Forbes' tonal uncertainty and a stiff script leave him stranded here, in a world that lacks the gravity to put his conscience-driven reticence in context.
Movie NationRoger MooreOnce the picture finally gets around to what it’s supposed to be doing, it almost turns exciting and visceral, and it kind of makes sense. Nothing shows viscera and blood to better advantage than white on white clothing and decor — spattered and arterial sprayed. All a bit too little entirely too late, here.
The New York TimesJeannette CatsoulisThis first feature from Will Forbes is a big slice of ham.
Los Angeles TimesMichael RechtshaffenJohn Henry is a lead-footed revenge thriller that lands with all the subtlety of the mighty steel-driving man’s sledgehammer.
User ReviewConnorOuelletteThis movie wasn’t that good, the only reason I finished it is because I’m a fan of Terry Crews.
User ReviewWhitebuffaloOne of the worst films I've seen in a long time. I wasnt aware it was possible to make such a bad revenge thriller. Somehow in a oversaturated genre they managed to make something new, an abomination. Terry Crews would normally compliment a movie with some humor and maybe muscles, but in this it attempts to showcase his acting which was really an awful decision. The plot is boring and contrite. Not worth watching an hour of exposition and empty dialogue for 30 minutes of bad action.
User ReviewWeastside94Just wasted 8 bucks renting this movie. It was terrible. The story line made no sense. The entire movie contains of talking. Theres minimal action. Lots of unanswered questions. Not much back story to explain things. The story jumps around everywhere. It's pretty weird and nothing made sense. I would not waste my money on watching this movie.
User ReviewBrandonw810This was just horrible!! Can't believe they did Terry like this. How the hell is the trailer better than ANY part of the movie? The only person with decent acting was the Dad, Ludacris was barley in the film, when he was, he didn't do enough 'scary' things to Antagonize the film, directors fault.. I hated the intro song's chorus,, they killed off everyone too quickly, talked way too much, Terry never beat up anyone, the film did a lot of senseless jumping around.... Definitely the worst film that made top 10 on Netflix... I'm sure there's worst films, only I didn't see them. I hope Ludacris and Terry got paid for this film....
User ReviewSomedude89This movie was awful. I feel bad for Terry, this is a flop, he deserved a better film to lead in.
