User Review - 10/10 by Jon WYou might remember this one from the early 80s playing a bunch on HBO. A love letter to b movies of all types by SNL and SCTV alums. Breaks down the genre into sub-genres like Brains, Gorillas and Aliens. Also features a loving tribute to the King of B Movies, Ed Wood well before Tim Burton's film. Each sub-genre is covered by a different comedian, like Cheech and Chong covering giant and tiny people movies and Gilda Radner covering gorilla movies. Has tons of clips of obscure and funny films ranging from the 50s to the 70s. This is the biggest reason this has not yet had a DVD release: the rights nightmare movies like this create. Also a kind of precursor to Mystery Science Theater 3000, taking a bad movie and making a joke about it's ineptness. I have asked the folks from MST3K , on several occasions, and they claim that this was not a direct influence on the show, but they enjoyed this once they saw it. They are nice folk and I believe them. If you like MST3K and or bad movies, this is one to seek out. I say seek out because it is not yet available on DVD (rights issues) and might never be. VHS copies were released and you can find them occasionally on eBay. I got one several years ago and don't regret it at all, even if it was a bit pricey.
User Review - 10/10 by kat eIf you like bad b movies, or any type of cult movies this is definatly one your need to see.
User Review - 8/10 by RJ MA precursor to MST3K, this features clips of some of the worst movies of all time. Dan Aykroyd, John Candy, Gilda Radner, and Cheech and Chong host segments that feature some of the most bizarre movies ever put to celluloid. From alien invaders to drug abuse to giant insects to really bad musicals, you'll be amazed at how low some movies sank for the sake of entertainment. The hosts running commentaries are fun (if too scripted), and add quite a few laughs themselves. Another bit of fun would be to turn the sound off, and add your own commentary. Hey, you'd be surprised how easy it is.
User Review - 8/10 by MEC rPre -- Mystery Science Theater 3000, post -- What's Up Tiger Lily. Great jokes from some great comedians. Cheech and Chong's dubbiing of reefer madness is exactly what you want it to be.
User Review - 8/10 by Brian PA great cast riffs on some of the worst movies of all time. This was ahead of 'Mystery Science Theater 3000' and one of the writers was an uncredited John Hughes. Not as funny as MST3K but this movie does have a great cast. On my pet peeve side, they also mock so really good movies. John Candy's salute to Ed Wood is the best segment.
User Review - 6/10 by Skeeter Uit was suppose to be a film version of the medvel books on bad movies. golden turkeys. but somehow it became one in the process. it has great "bad" movies and at the same time it has great movies. the comic cast was fun to see togather however.Gilda Radner Dan Ackroyd John Candy and Cheech and Chong had some commenting bits on the proceedings. this is for movie buffs who like ALL kinds of movies. it deserves a second shot on dvd
User Review - 4/10 by Gary SIt Came From Hollywood, but what is 'It'? Could it be Gorillas? Yes, Gorillas rampaging through multiplexes with their fake costumes and bad plots. Or is it Martians? Yes, UFO's destroying countries and using mannequins for speed bumps. What about the Giants and tiny people? Were they the "It" that came from the dreaded Hollywood? I bet it was Edward D. Wood Jr who is the true "It" that Hollywood spat out into the faces of audiences with his epic badness. Or maybe the 'It' is Hollywood itself? John Candy's Salute to Ed Wood is the best reason to see this fledgling compilation of B-movies hosted by yesteryear comedians who will amuse you with their classic wit as they lampoon clips of films with gorillas, flying saucers, musicals, giants etc. This would be a great film to watch on the big screen because it encompasses a number of nostalgic clips and movie trailers. The DVD to this has been discontinued unfortunately, but if you search on Youtube you'll find it.
