Full Plot Details

This is a family comedy with an anti-bullying theme. When a new kid named Cory moves to town, he's picked on by the school bullies. To protect himself, he doesn't use his fists-he uses his brain instead! He scares the bullies off by fibbing that his father is a hit man for the mob. Word quickly spreads around and gets the attention of the REAL mobsters in town, too. Now his dad has the problem! As shenanigans between the family and the mobsters ensue, Cory must find a way to make things right. (Think "Home Alone" meets "The Sopranos." But with NO GUNS! ) This is a broad comedy with lots of fun and physical humor.

User Review - 10/10 by Ira HIndie films tend to be either high concept or character driven with lots of angst. It's so refreshing to see this indie film - a family comedy. And it's well executed. It's even more refreshing to see the serious subject of bullying tackled in a humorous yet satisfying way. The story line is clever... and the whole movie works. It's well shot and well acted. The parents do a terrific job, and the kids are infectious. How to Beat a Bully is a well-made movie that tackles a very real social problem... that has a good moral... and that's enjoyable and fun to watch!

Where one child resolves, with harmless innocent, a defense against the intimidating egos of youthful bullies. "How to beat a Bully" takes on the subject of bullying without being academic or preachy. Great fun and humor, if you're not a cynical bully like Barbara Shulgasser.

The story is clever and endearing and the production value is great. You'll be surprised how quickly you get wrapped up in the world of the crazy yet relatable little town (key being that all towns are crazy to some degree). There's nothing wrong with giving the thriller/drama/horror genres a break for one night while you enjoy some good family fun. I think you'll be surprised how good of a time you'll have.

There are a lot of "down" movies with bullying stories, but this one is only seeking to be fun and entertaining. And it is. It is also a an easy opening to begin to discuss this serious issue with kids.
