User Review - 8/10 by Lee MReally fucking good. It's great as a standalone piece and not one of those you gotta know its grindhouse to appreciate it type of way. This thing addresses what it is and makes fun of everything about the crappy little industry the 70's movie making business was. Joe Dante and Roger Corman actually made a hilarious fun movie that actually feels like a b-movie version of tropic thunder... minus huge cameos but the point is there are no fucking stars in these pieces of shit. anyway. i loved the shit out of it. one of the most fun and well written corman movies ive seen.
User Review - 8/10 by Spookie MLow budget film is the debut of Dante and Arkush. Pieced together with footage from other Roger Corman productions this is a funny b movie about making b movies. There are lots of references to other films and cameos by future directors, Robby the Robot and the car from Death Race 2000. Fun.
User Review - 8/10 by FilmGrinder S85% My god, they're actually parodying themselves! Funny stuff.
User Review - 6/10 by Andrew SHollywood Boulevard Starring: Candice Rialson, Dick Miller, Paul Bartel, Mary Woronov, and Rita George Directors: Joe Dante and Allan Arkush When Candy (Rialson) arrives in Hollywood with dreams of being an actress, she falls in with the crazy low-budget filmmakers at Miracle Studios. It soon turns out that one is more crazy than the rest, and Miracle Pictures' starlets keep getting murdered. Will Candy be next? "Hollywood Boulevard" is a messy picture that, even by the admission of the directors themselves, was cobbled together, rushed and generally made up as they went along. In other words, this Roger Corman-funded tribute/send-up of Roger Corman filmmaking techniques was produced exactly like many of the films it was poking fun at. (And the cast and crew of this picture were all employees of Corman's company, or friends of him and people who were.) This film is fun to watch, despite its flaws, because it is such a send-up of itself. It also helps that every actor is putting on fun and energetic performances, and the way that everyone seems to be enjoying themselves is infecteous. In many ways, this movie feels like a backyard produciton, but pretty much everyone appearing in major parts were seasons professionals with dozens of B-movies behind them. "Hollywood Boulevard" isn't a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination, but it is fun to watch. Miller's performance as a bottom-run talent agent, the sci-fi production and the Mario Bava send-up portions of the film are particularly funny. It's not something to go out of your way for (in fact, it barely makes it to the Six Tomato mark), but if you enjoy movies about making movies, I think you'll have fun watching it.
User Review - 6/10 by Leetal PDante says he regrets not calling it "Hollywood Hookers", which I agree would have been a much better name. Anywhoo, another funyun from Dante's early years that is surprisingly quick and witty with its dialogue. Should be remembered as such, for there are lines in this movie much funnier than in anything I've seen at the multiplex recently. Oh, and boobs.
User Review - 6/10 by Kayla KThis is a movie I don't really enjoy at face value. It's more like poetry. When you really look at the details and put the pieces together and talk about it with your friends and hear the anecdotes, it becomes more than it really is. And that is how it's special.
User Review - 6/10 by Tim SIts defo interesting and not one second was I bored,so I give it props for that.
User Review - 6/10 by Shawn WExploitation Kingpin, Roger Corman gave co-director Joe Dante (The Howling, Gremlins, The â??burbs) his big break with this spoof on B movie filmmaking. Using sets from previous Corman classics like Big Bad Mama and Death Race 2000, Hollywood Boulevard features lots of gratuitous nudity, senseless death, and a delightful performance from Dick Miller as slimy go-getter Walter Paisley (same name and character from Buckets of Blood?). Look for cameos from Forest J Ackerman, Jonathan Demme, Godzilla, and Robbie the Robot. Not genius, but good Corman fun. VF.
User Review - 4/10 by Weston HI think this was my first Corman flm. its about thirty minutes of a great film, three of which are from other movies, and 53 minutes of filler. of course i havent seen it in a while, so i could be wrong. I LOVE the whole Miracle Pictures pun.
User Review - 4/10 by Richard OFeels like an homage to exploitation films by the makers of exploitation films, seemingly full of in-jokes but not necessarily funny. Contains plenty of recycled footage from other films. Did enjoy Robbie the Robot's appearance at the wrap party.
