Plus qu'un art, le cinéma c'est la magie de jouer à l'équilibriste avec les émotions. Loin de ses rôles de gaffeurs, Peter Sellers est ici bouleversant. Quand à Sinéad Cusack, la fragilité de son regard est inoubliable. Encore une fois, ils font chi... Studio canal à jamais sortir tous ces joyaux anglais chez nous ( au moins, il pourrait mettre des sous-titres anglais sur les DVDs UK ). |

And it works marvelously thanks to the interesting premise, convincing performances, suitable music and, perhaps most importantly, the solid characterization, very good dialogues and equally potent subtext. It might not be the most subversive film ever but it's quite a fascinating portrayal of sexual and emotional frustration. |
| User ReviewPrivate Usurprisingly good Sellers drama about an older misogynist (played by Sellers) that blackmails a young girl who is about to be married to another man into living with Seller's character for a week. Sort of like Terrance Stamp's The Butterfly Collector except not a thriller, but some of the same ideas at work here.....lots of great one liners, although this is not a comedy....however Sellers is excellent and Cusack is no slouch either. |

Up to that point, this was a career-best performance and only surpassed—perhaps only matched—by his later Chance the Gardener. His aim: to convince his secretary (Cusack) that her fiancé is wrong for her and to win her heart—by initially blackmailing her. Wonderful theme song by Matt Monro. |
