When Ricky Miller, a single, quiet 40-year old aspiring writer and manager of Debbie's (think Denny's) and probably the last person you'd notice in a crowd is 'hit by lightning' and meets the love of his life, the beautiful Danita on E-Happily.com, he is catapulted into a relationship online but it's a lot more than what he bargained for - this includes being asked to kill! Hounded by his best friend Seth who thinks no "10" would even go out with a guy like Ricky unless she had ulterior motives (or needed glasses), Ricky starts to get skeptical himself. Turns out, Danita confesses she's actually married to a handsome affable crime novelist and former Rabbi, Ben Jacobs. Is Danita telling Ricky the truth when she says wants to leave her husband but fears for her life if she does? Will Ricky go through with the plan to kill him so he and Danita can live happily ever after?

Blu-ray.comBrian OrndorfNever gets past mildly amusing, finding Blitt unwilling to spin the effort dizzy with madcap encounters and pitch-black comedy.
The Hollywood ReporterSheri LindenThanks to Jon Cryer’s likable-schlemiel shtick, a lost-cause rom-com is more watchable than it has any right to be. But that’s not enough to make Hit by Lightning remotely involving.
McClatchy-Tribune News ServiceRoger MooreSlow-witted and slowly paced, with characters kept at arm’s length, our biggest concern is not whether Ricky will indeed be Hit by Lightning, but whether anybody will find a spark of life in this corpse of a comedy.
Village VoiceChris PackhamIt's a black-comedy plot without any blackness or actual comedy, unless mugging and bro-heiming by Mad TV's Will Sasso counts as hilarious.
The New York TimesBen KenigsbergEven with a few late twists, concept exceeds execution.
The DissolveMike D'AngeloHit By Lightning might have worked as black comedy, but Blitt clearly lacks any instinct for genuine darkness.
Los Angeles TimesMartin TsaiAn offbeat rom-com that ventures down the film-noir path, Hit by Lightning manages to make dark comedy fresh by combining two formulas.
New York PostSara StewartFrom its uninspired, sitcom-y look to its phoned-in dialogue (“I love you plus infinity”; “I love you plus double infinity”) to its creaky plot, Hit by Lightning is anything but electrifying.
New York Daily NewsElizabeth WeitzmanCryer makes a likable sad-sack and Will Sasso provides balance as his narcissistic best friend. But both guys deserve better. As do we.
User ReviewHarley CI really enjoyed this movie, I don't understand why critics are so hard on it, what were they expecting? An academy award winning drama? It's a light hearted comedy that is guaranteed to make you laugh. I don't usually laugh in movies but this want really made me laugh out loud. I would recommend this movie to anyone who wants to watch a light hearted movie and to someone who wants to laugh! What makes this movie special is the suspense, you don't really see suspense in a romantic comedy!
