Movie Reviews

Nolan's Pop Culture Review - 10/10 by Michael A. SmithGreat performance by Hanks makes this a winner.
Capital Times (Madison, WI) - 10/10 by Rob ThomasWill always remain Hanks' best comic performance.
Arizona Daily Star - 10/10 by Phil VillarrealHanks so convincingly played a grown-up with a 12-year-old mind that he transformed instantly in the public eye from a run-of-the-mill comedy star to a respected actor with limitless potential.
USA Today - 10/10 by Donna BrittBig is a winning, charming film, primarily because Hanks makes it work. He is extraordinarily convincing as an adolescent who suddenly finds himself dealing with a new, adult body, responsibilities, and a romantic relationship, while simultaneously trying to survive vicious corporate infighting.
ReelViews - 9/10 by James BerardinelliAlthough Big is generally lighthearted, it rarely plays for stupid laughs. There are a few of these, but the film avoids sacrificing character integrity for the cheap guffaw.
Internet Reviews - 9/10 by Steve RhodesHanks gives one of the best performances of his impressive career.
Apollo Guide - 9/10 by Guy MacPhersonKids will love the laugh-out-loud fantasy. Adults will laugh, too, as well as appreciate the sweetness that lies underneath.
Washington Post - 9/10 by Hal HinsonBig has a warmhearted sweetness that's invigorating; it makes you want to break out the Legos. It's only near the end of the film, when Hanks has to play the scenes for pathos, that the movie becomes cloying.
Groucho Reviews - 9/10 by Peter CanaveseOne of Hollywood's all-time most appealing magic realist fantasies. [Blu-ray]
New York Daily News - 9/10 by Kathleen CarrollThe film succeeds largely because of the splendid performance of Tom Hanks -- who is irresistibly funny as "big" Josh.
