| User ReviewMaria MI like it very much. I like symbolism and metaphors of the story. At first glance it seems that you are watching a crime story, but when you notice the details, it becomes obvious that this story is about the meaning of our beliefs, abductions and spiritual development. The cultural background of the story is amazing. It starts from showing us very specific icons. One of them is the Trinity icon created by Russian painter Andrei Rublev in the 15th century. It is his most famous work and the most famous of all Russian icons. If you understand the meaning of this icon you will be amazed of the metaphoric message that the main character got from friends to solve the vital important problem. The second icon called Our Lady of Vladimir and as I see it is an accidental choice. It is one of the most venerated Orthodox icons and if you now historical facts related to the icon you will be simply impressed of the message of the movie: " The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it" (John 1;5). This is high quality production. Actors are beautiful and the directing is wonderful. |

| User ReviewAlex HAaron Kamp builds a solid world in his latest, "Hidden Light", a piece about a city that is controlled by a violent, drug-fueled underworld and the one priest who works to set things right. Through this dichotomy, he illustrates the delicate balance between good and evil that each one of us struggle with every day and ultimately, provides some measure of hope that good will triumph in the end. A slew of crisp visuals - notably his intimate close ups - along with strong performances from leads Jack Jovcic and Troy Coward help this film rise above melodrama, despite some supporting players that might otherwise threaten to weigh it down. Mid-way through the film, it might be obvious that a number of the characters are headed for a collision course, but nonetheless, the ride is still well worth it. |
| User ReviewTim MThe Hidden Light is an emotionally compelling, suspenseful and yes, faith based film. I like it when I find these unknown indy gems that take a chance on portraying the human drama that Jack Jovcic's character is pushing through. A lot of supposedly religious people could learn a lot about redemption and forgiveness as portrayed in this film. I found myself drawn in to the subject matter.. I'm a lot more patient than most so give this movie a chance to wash over you about what these men do about the lingering effects of the criminal decisions... and if yee be without sin, then cast the first stone! I give this... 4 stones! Good movie.. |
