Lonely since his wife left him and alienated from his daughter, a cantankerous voice-over artist strikes up an unlikely friendship with his regular deliveryman. Many suburbs away, an elderly widow loses her license to drive and turns to her wry younger neighbor for nostalgic cuddles and comfort. Meanwhile, a young urban sports fanatic meets a girl online and unexpectedly falls in love, though the trials the couple endure prove even more unexpected. Adam Reid's enchanting, compassionate debut weaves together the worlds of six lonely individuals as they negotiate the age-old process of giving and receiving love. It isn't easy, and it never happens the way they expect it, but for these isolated souls, there's an oddball magic in the way they make connections they never imagined.

Movie Reviews

NewsBlaze - 10/10 by Kam WilliamsCongrats to rookie Reid for crafting such an endlessly-amusing screenplay, for finding the right cast to execute that vision, and for the rest of just the right ingredients to serve a satisfying, cinematic stew.
Spirituality and Practice - 9/10 by Frederic and Mary Ann BrussatSix vulnerable and appealing characters on a quest to escape the prison of their loneliness.
Newark Star-Ledger - 8/10 by Stephen WhittyIt's a bit scattered, and each of its three stories turns on a bit of a melodrama. It's not perfect. But it does work.
Ozus' World Movie Reviews - 6/10 by Dennis SchwartzThe promising film works but ends too abruptly without having a chance to be more impactful or profound.
New York Daily News - 6/10 by Elizabeth WeitzmanThe parts are ultimately greater than the whole, but Adam Reid's offbeat debut suggests a talent worth watching.
NYC Movie Guru - 6/10 by Avi OfferMarginally engrossing and witty, yet somewhat contrived and lacking in depth.
New York Times - 6/10 by Stephen HoldenAdam Reid's smart, poignant trilogy of interwoven vignettes, manages the considerable feat of creating six fully human characters who are quirky enough to transcend the stereotypes found in a typical indie film.
Slant Magazine - 5/10 by Chuck BowenHello Lonesome isn't really that much of a movie, but it has something that a number of more polished pictures in the same vein don't: human decency. Sadly, that's noteworthy.
Hollywood & Fine - 2/10 by Marshall FineA tiny independent film (budget: $50,000) that aims high and nearly gets there..Reid does a lot with a little - and has crafted a small beauty of a film with his first try.
User Review - 10/10 by Pat GI am giddy for my friends Adam Reid (director), Ted Gannon (score), Scott Rankin (editor) David Gioella and Mark Littman (Producers). Congratulations guys...and the NEW YORK TIMES loves the movie, too.
