After saving the world from the evil Russian mystic, Grigory Rasputin, in Hellboy (2004), the red-skinned gun-toting demon and humankind's strange protector, Hellboy, now struggle to accept that the operations of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defence must remain secret. As if that weren't enough, the powerful Elven-prince, Nuada, is bent on retrieving the fragments of a crown that commands the indestructible Golden Army: an omnipotent legion of clockwork warriors that can destroy all humans. Now, before this new menace, all hope rests on Hellboy and Liz's old brothers-in-arms, as well as the ectoplasmic being, Johann Krauss. However, the Earth's supernatural defenders seem to be no match for Nuada's unstoppable forces. Did Hellboy and the rest bite off more than they could chew?

Movie Reviews

San Francisco Examiner - 10/10 by Rossiter DrakeClearly, del Toro has a deep affection for both his characters and the world of gods and fairy-tale monsters, and it translates into a rich, sophisticated sequel that actually improves on the original.
The Hollywood Reporter - 10/10 by Michael RechtshaffenWith writer-director del Toro given free license to go where his singular vision takes him, Hellboy II plays like Guillermo's Greatest Hits with even hotter visual effects.
Salon.com - 10/10 by Stephanie ZacharekPoetic, funny, darkly romantic and beautifully structured -- is a very different picture from "Pan's Labyrinth." But there's no doubt that it springs from the same cathedral.
Los Angeles Times - 10/10 by Kenneth TuranDel Toro is almost alone in his ability to re-create on screen the wide-eyed exhilaration and disturbing grotesqueness that is the legacy of reading comics on the page.
Florida Times-Union - 10/10 by Matt SoergelThe action's pretty pedestrian, and you wouldn't be blamed if you wished they'd just get it over with so that we could get back to the glories of Hellboy himself.
Film Freak Central - 10/10 by Walter ChawThe film itself is lovely, a breathless feast of fantasy anchored by an authentic humanism.
eFilmCritic.com - 10/10 by Rob GonsalvesAwkward as the plotting is, the movie is too stubbornly weird, too deeply in love with freakishness, to be waved off.
Star-Democrat (Easton, MD) - 10/10 by Greg MakiI left the theater nearly delirious from what I had just experienced--and I can't wait to take it all in again.
Salt Lake Tribune - 10/10 by Sean P. MeansBy far the most imaginative action movie in ages - a mix of epic fantasy, tender romance, broad comedy and double-barreled excitement that satisfies all your pleasure centers.
Movie City News - 9/10 by Michael WilmingtonWe should be glad that del Toro is operating at his peak right now, getting all the money and latitude he needs to weave his spells.
