While Siddharth is directly involved in this struggle, Geeta and Vikram are romantically involved. When Vikram does not make any move toward marriage, despite of being introduced to Geeta's Madras-based family, she decides to give up on him, and he starts his romance with another young woman. While students continue to voice their disapproval of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, the Allahabad High Court gives a judgment indicting her for several offenses under the Representation of People Act. Mrs. Gandhi then uses her powers to clamp Emergency, taking away all powers of the judiciary, giving police virtually unlimited powers to the Police to detain anyone under the National Security Act, imprisoning leaders of all political parties, empowering her son, Sanjay Gandhi, to indiscriminately carry out Human Rights abuses in order to fulfill her "Family Planning" mandate, and her 20-point program. Vikram's father is one such person who is arrested and held in a cell. Siddharth also is on the run; Vikram, who was never a part of this struggle, himself becomes entangled in it.

User ReviewWamique Gthe best indian movie of the past decade!!!!!
User ReviewDeepak MOne hell of a movie. Though set in the turbulent decade between 1969-79, the story rings true even in present-day India. If you haven't watched this movie, you have missed one of the best Hindi movies of the previous decade.
User ReviewDhaval P(re-watch for i had forgotten how amazing it was) it has to be one of the best movies India has ever produced. the characters are so complex and realistic. The state of confusion of youth is so greatly depicted in this movie. the politics of 70's in India. the youth from middle class making his own ways into riches and above all absolutely wonderful love story. chitragandha singh, kay kay and shiney -- all are wonderful.
User ReviewNix Vone of the most brilliant hindi movies i have ever seen, i recommend this to every mature cinema watching person. great characters, equally good actors doing justice to their characters, great direction, overall a really great and brave film making, it reflects the government apathy towards providing basic amenities ot the rural poor and if they protest, their protests are "curbed". it shows the 70s india, but i dont think India in the 2nd decade of the 21st century has shown any signs of change its still relevant today and one can easily relate ones happenings in life to this great movie. PS: great music as well...
User ReviewArundhati Sseriously, this is one of the movies that changed my life. what amazing performances and i could not come out of this movie for months and actually i have not yet come out of it. love chitrangadha singh. she is gorgeous and brilliant music. one of those cult movies that can never ever be repeated!
User ReviewShahriar AThe greatest test of any movie is how long the impact of that movie lasts after the curtain comes down. Well for this one, the effect lasted for 8 hours. Its mesmerizing, superbly written. A hidden gem of a movie that none talks about. Chitranga Singh should have been the indian find of the decade. The acting is of the highest calibre. Shiney Anujha shows what he can do when there is a good script. All in all....this is one of THE movies for me that i have seen in 2008
User ReviewMandeep SThis is very dense, intense and interesting story. Its been long time since i've been attached to any character in any flick, but the moment you see Vikram getting abused physically and near his fag end, you just dont want it to happen. Some really solid acting. The characters are very well thought and very human like. The one sided love affair of Vikram, the devotion of Gita and the journey of Siddarth is captivating. Cleared quite a bit confusion in my own mind. Thanks Sudhir for making this movie. Hope to see more of Chitrangada Singh too. PS: There is bonus as a very good Qawwali in the movie. Easy on ears.
User ReviewAisharyya AA wonderful and wonderful acting. Acting in their first film, Chitrangada Singh, Kay Kay Menon and Shiny Ahuja produced a wonderful performance in this movie set at the time when India was facing a political turmoil during the emergency. An excellent story, wonderful direction and brilliant acting. It is one of the best Hindi movies ever made. It is not just a movie, it is a piece of brilliant art.
