One high ranking official, Paul Krendler (Ray Liotta) has it in for her. But she gets a reprieve because Mason Verger (Gary Oldman), one of Lecter's victims who is looking to get back at Lecter for what Lecter did to him, wants to use Starling to lure him out. When Lecter sends her a note, she learns that he's in Italy, so she asks the Police to keep an eye out for him. But a corrupt Policeman, who wants to get the reward that Verger placed on him, tells Verger where he is, but they fail to get him. Later, Verger decides to frame Starling, which makes Lecter return to the U.S., and the race to get Lecter begins.

eFilmCritic.comRob GonsalvesA dark and complexly entertaining ride, highly generous to multiple viewings.
ComingSoon.netScott ChitwoodNever forgetting its reason for existence being popular entertainment, it never ventures into art house pretentious horror like the book does so gracefully and so often.
Entertainment TodayBrent SimonNo wonder lesser minds hate this movie: it's radically different from Silence -- a bloody, suspense-driven, darkly comedic love story between good and evil, a florid, grandiose thriller manifesto on why polar extremes need each other to survive.
Matt's Movie ReviewsMatt EasterbrookThe only thing scary about HANNIBAL is the fact that it's somehow managed to make $150 million at the box office so far.

Film ExperienceNathaniel RogersAs a straight-up sequel it fails to match the original in any way. As a spectacle...it works a little better.
Baltimore SunChris KaltenbachHannibal lacks the rounded emotional elegance of ''The Silence of the Lambs'' (that was a great film; this one is merely good).
Planet Sick-BoyJon PopickHannibal is a really good film, but it's nowhere near as earth-shattering as Lambs.
TimeRichard CorlissIt's unmissable, flaws and all, because riveting suspense spiced with diabolical laughs and garnished with a sprig of kinky romance add up to the tastiest dish around.
Combustible CelluloidJeffrey M. AndersonScott's elegant, shadowy atmosphere and deliberate pacing make the film a delightfully spooky experience.
