Movie Reviews

RogerEbert.com - 10/10 by Matt Zoller SeitzGodzilla vs. Kong is a crowd-pleasing, smash-'em-up monster flick and a straight-up action picture par excellence. It is a fairy tale and a science-fiction exploration film, a Western, a pro wrestling extravaganza, a conspiracy thriller, a Frankenstein movie, a heartwarming drama about animals and their human pals, and, in spots, a voluptuously wacky spectacle that plays as if the creation sequence in "The Tree of Life" had been subcontracted to the makers of "Yellow Submarine."
Polygon - 9/10 by Joshua RiveraGodzilla vs. Kong is a gorgeous, kinetic spectacle that’s so effectively big in its loud colors and ridiculous choreography that any screen outside of a multiplex feels too small for it.
Austin Chronicle - 9/10 by Richard WhittakerOf course, everything leads to the massive final battle, the pay-off we've been promised, and Wingard delivers.
Boston Globe - 8/10 by Ty BurrGodzilla vs. Kong has speed, wit, and a refreshing refusal to take itself very seriously.
Vanity Fair - 8/10 by Richard LawsonGodzilla vs. Kong competently, efficiently does its job, which is really all you can ask of the fourth movie in a rickety franchise.
Chicago Tribune - 8/10 by Michael PhillipsEven if Godzilla vs. Kong feels more a tad more mecha than human, it satisfies nonetheless. The MonsterVerse remains a better-than-average franchise, pulling enough variations on its theme of Titans, clashing, to keep on keepin’ on.
The Globe and Mail (Toronto) - 8/10 by Barry HertzGodzilla vs. Kong is a ridiculous movie made even more ridiculous by a distinct lack of care in its conception and execution. But it is also the kind of cinematic assault that delivers just the right jolt to the most base sensibilities hiding within our lizard brains. You walk away dazed but bemused.
Los Angeles Times - 8/10 by Jessica KiangAfter so many tentpoles that have insisted on being metaphors for this or that, the abundance of sound and fury here — take a bow, Tom Holkenborg, composer of the majestic synth score — blissfully signifying nothing, qualifies as a colossal, giddily escapist relief.
The Guardian - 8/10 by Benjamin LeeThe much-hyped battles deliver the giddy thrills we demand but in the moments when the pair aren’t at war there’s also a staggeringly well-built and extensive universe to explore and one that’s barely been teased in the trailers we’ve seen.
New York Post - 8/10 by Johnny OleksinskiThis time, ‘Zilla and Kong face off in ginormous Hong Kong — a destruction junkie’s dream battlefield. Neon, chrome and oversize animals clobbering each other. Also around is another adversary whose reveal will have fans drooling. See Godzilla vs. Kong on the big screen if you can.
