Movie Reviews

Chicago Reader - 10/10 by J.R. JonesAs with the earlier movie, this one turns in on its own morality like a Möbius strip, endorsing kindness by practicing slaughter, and pulls us along for the ride. Detractors will call its reasoning ridiculous, and they'll be right - though I doubt that will bother Goldthwait, who makes a living being ridiculous.
Flick Filosopher - 9/10 by MaryAnn JohansonI sympathize with its attitudes... But Goldthwait -- as writer and director -- doesn't know what to do with this except rage incoherently and ineffectively at the state of the world...
Sin Magazine - 9/10 by Austin KennedyIt's jawdroppingly hilarious! You'll laugh, but then will feel guilty for laughing. I love movies that make me uncomfortable. Remember how dark HEATHERS was? Well, this is 10 times darker!
AV Club - 9/10 by Scott TobiasThe key point about God Bless America is that it's extreme but not exaggerated, a dark comedy that indulges - and questions - a violent, misanthropic fantasy about laying waste to the cultural landscape while staying grounded in a recognizable reality.
Entertainment Weekly - 9/10 by Owen GleibermanBobcat Goldthwait's new movie is a burlesque that turns into a harangue that turns into a rampage.
Film School Rejects - 9/10 by Neil MillerDarkly comedic, subversive, rage-filled and infinitely charming. I haven't quite laughed this hard since Bobcat Goldthwait's last movie, World's Greatest Dad.
Philadelphia Weekly - 9/10 by Sean BurnsGoldthwait's bile may be cathartic, but it also feels a bit cheap.
Shadows on the Wall - 8/10 by Rich ClineLike Kevin Smith's blistering Red State, this film scythes through the mindless degradation of the American media.
Dread Central - 8/10 by Heather WixsonAnyone who has ever been fed up by the vacuous nature of modern pop culture should no doubt enjoy living vicariously through Frank and Roxy's exploits in God Bless America.
amNewYork - 8/10 by Robert LevinA stark vision of American civilization crumbling amid a morass of loud, cacophonic nonsense.
