Jérôme Bonaparte, assuming the name "Jerome Laverne," visits Baltimore, where he poses as a teacher and wins the love of Elizabeth "Betsy" Patterson, a society girl. After marrying Elizabeth, he reveals himself to be the brother of the Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte.
