User ReviewPaul DScariest thing ever behind Blair Witch and Changeling.
User ReviewJohn MThe mockumentary that inspired Blair Witch. Like that pants-browning offering, the fact that it is an example of vérité horror, adds to the scariness. You've also got to remember that a lot of people who whatched this at the time of its release - an 11-year-old me included - didn't know this was a drama. So when things started going diddly-doo and all oogily-boogily, they (and I) were scared stupid, but once I knew it was a teleplay, I was impressed, and I still am. It makes me sad, in a way, though, to think that, because of the furore it created, never again will tv be this innovative or exciting
User ReviewJacky Lmovies nice but the ending was great if you haven't seen any horror flims it will come as a surprise to you
User ReviewShantel DNot many people know this but this was actually the inspiration for the Blair Witch Project and (subsequently through Paranormal Activity, Grave Encounters and others) the entire modern "psychological horror" genre it is also the scariest film I have ever seen and i'm someone that thought Saw was hilarious and Sweeney Todd made me hungry but this...it still gives me nightmares...
User ReviewPhilip PThere's a parallel universe where M. Night Shyamalan was commissioned by the BBC drama department, issued the same budget they gave Bob Blagden to realise the Blake's 7 title sequence, and made this film. Who you gonna call? Parky.
User ReviewJay Sthe "War of the Worlds" for the television era.
User ReviewThomas KVery entertaining, reviews of the WNUF Halloween Special brought me to this, enjoyed it very much
User ReviewBill MA really interesting film, a notorious early 90's bbc "mockumentary" that could very well be a horror genre landmark, as it so clearly and heavily informs all the found footage movies to come a decade later, if the makers of Blair Witch and Paranormal activity hadn't seen this before hand, id be suprised. Set up like a real, live, mundane and typically event free BBC ghost hunting documentary it soon spirals into an out and out horror flick, with some genuinely creepy moments, a building sense of unbearable dread and brilliant filmaking craft. Ideal Halloween viewing.
User ReviewRowan CThis fictional controversial paranormal investigation show about a haunted house investigation. Aired in 1992 on BBC One and appeared on television to seem 'live'. I can tell that Most Haunted Live took serious inspiration from this show with its format and contents. With Sir Michael Parkinson as the presenter along with a team of ghost investigators and experts gives the show a very realistic feel. The acting is good at most parts but the child actors in the show were bad, but probably when viewers were watching it on television they wouldn't have thought about it because of the shows 'live' feel and presentation. With interesting mythology and for its time a very original concept (nowadays people wouldn't believe it as much, because of shows such as Most Haunted and films like Paranormal Activity) makes "Ghostwatch" an entertaining horror show with a nicely paced set of scary scenes, and in some ways scarier or on par with horror films, such as The Blair Witch Project, The Exorcist and The Shining.
User ReviewJulia CComplete nonsense, but it scared the shit out of everyone in Britain who thought it was real. Quite unique at the time but it's been done many times since (Blair Witch Project, Last Broadcast). Very much a case of you had to be there at the time to appreciate it. To rewatch it now would be pointless.
