Movie Reviews

Arizona Republic - 7/10 by Bill GoodykoontzUnfortunately, the plot as a whole is rushed, with character-development shortcuts and one whopping out-of-the-blue development that seems to exist not as a surprise but because the filmmakers had painted themselves into a narrative corner and needed a way out. But there are some scares, and Cooper and especially Guido give authentic-feeling performances — again, with a few shortcuts along the way.
The New York Times - 7/10 by Jeannette CatsoulisThe special effects are fine, if unremarkable, but the actors are into it and the script manages to be thoughtful without dampening the fun.
The Guardian - 6/10 by Phil HoadIts history assignment comes out pretty jumbled but this breezy YA vampire flick shrugs “whatever” and gets back to nailing the undead.
RogerEbert.com - 6/10 by Nick AllenIt’s the kind of movie that might not be as charming if you’ve seen 100 vampire movies, but if you’re also curious about bloodsucker tropes, and the real-life world that surrounds its lead character, it has just enough of a soul.
Screen Rant - 5/10 by Ferdosa AbdiWhile it has entertaining moments, Black as Night isn't very balanced and the overall lack of levity ultimately makes the film a slog to get through.
The A.V. Club - 4/10 by Katie RifeBlack As Night is assembled in an uninspired YA style that only accentuates the weaknesses of its script, which is laden with stilted dialogue and cringeworthy voiceover.
The Playlist - 3/10 by Brian TallericoA chaotic mishmash of ideas searching for a movie, Black as Night suffers significantly from truly awkwardly amateurish dialogue and performances.
User Review - 5/10 by JLuis_001Black as Night lasts just under 90 minutes and still feels extremely long. This more than anything because of the lack of variants and how most of its situations get constantly repeated in comings and goings without really having a clear point of where it's actually heading to. The barely existing plot moves forward just because it has to, but it has no more interesting or relevant motive. It knows how to use the racial and drug addiction themes without falling into cliches or cheap tricks, but the conventionality of its proposal does not improve any of that. And the horror? An absent guest.
User Review - 4/10 by JLauNew Orleans is being overun with vampires preying on the homeless but luckily, they can be dealt with by a group of teenagers who can't act but do have garlic.
