User ReviewMaineutral RGarfield on the Town, another special masterpiece thanks to Jim Davis now joined with Garfield himself (Lorenzo Music) and the same team as the previous special with Gregg Berger, now permanent Thom Huge and his wife Sandi, Julie Payne, and many others along with the music again by Desirée Goyette, Ed Bogas and Lou Rawls.

User ReviewJenn S'Garfield on the Town' was my favourite Garfield film. I saw it when I was very young, and I always felt very sad when Garfield goes back to the place where he was brought up as a kitten, and he remembers everything about this place (and his mother) and recalls how it used to be and how it has now changed. It's a very emotional scene, and you really do get to see another side to Garfield beyond the funny comments and the laid-back attitude. I don't think the film had too much more to offer, sadly, than this scene. At least, the rest of it is not very memorable. I first saw this when I was about five-years-old - when it was first on television. I saw it a few years after that, and besides the scene where Garfield visits his old place, I don't think it had much more to offer. I cannot say whether or not I recommend it. I can just state that I did enjoy it, and it was a very memorable film to me.
User ReviewTristan PPerhaps the funniest and most touching of the Garfield specials.
User ReviewJacob GGood, but pretty weak when compared to "Here comes Garfield"
User ReviewBen LIn Garfield's second trip to the small screen Jim Davis strayed a little further from the established jokes written for his comic strip. Now Garfield is going through some trip down memory lane as he runs into his birthplace and a whole slew of his relatives. The contrast of their street-wise mouser personalities and Garfield's pampered and spoiled personality is definitely good for a few laughs. However this feels like they're trying too hard to elicit an emotional response rather then just having fun like in Here Comes Garfield. Watching Garfield get in trouble with a cat street gang is just not as interesting as the potential of Odie being killed at the pound. Of course Lou Rawls and Desiree Goyette return and offer some more great singing. However the songs don't seem to have quite as much punch as the first special. Don't get me wrong, the singers still bring their A game, but the songs as written just aren't quite as catchy and endearing as those that were included in the first Garfield TV special. In the long run I think this is a much less exciting trip into the world of Garfield. It will probably still entertain young kids, and since it is available on DVD with the original there is no reason to avoid it. Besides, no matter how sub-par I may think Garfield on the Town is, it still is light years ahead of the repulsively bad movie made in 2004.
