A first person narrative of the exploits of a gay serial killer in deeply disturbing, controversial drama about violence, sexuality, and the imagination. Dennis, the main character, whose lead we follow on this path between what is real and what we can only hope is surreal. His friends attempt to determine if he's truly a psychopath. The story, is told in the form of a succession of ritual-like murders, comes to life through the letters he writes to his sometime lover and best friend Julian and the object of his desire, Julian's younger brother, Kevin. The film is set in an erotic world of sado-masochism and portrays the sexual appetites of a young man for whom killing and engorging the victim become the ultimate thrill.

EmanuelLevy.ComEmanuel LevyAiming to explore the extremities of racial and sexual fetishism in the gay world, Frisk exhibits a huge gap between its provocative intent and weak execution level.

User ReviewJames DI wrote the screenplay ;-) This was A LOT of fun to work on and if we'd had more say in it- it would have been an all-out slapstick gay murder dark comedy (the first of its kind!) The book is the height of late 80's pretension. No wonder there was Grunge in the 90's... take the movie with a grain of salt and much tongue in cheek.
User ReviewDustin CEvery so often, I come across one of "those gay movies" that makes me kind of stop and think about just how horrible life is. "Frisk" is definitely one of these movies, and may be one of the most horrible and interesting movies I've ever seen. The film, based on the book of the same name, is somewhat hard to follow at first; it splits between flashbacks and present day, revolving around letters the protagonist is sending his friend and his friend's younger brother. Oh, and his letters are all about how he's killing people. Yeah. And not just any killing, but like GUTTING people. It's sick. The movie is very visually stunning; sort of like driving by a car accident, you have to look to see what happened. None of the visuals will give you therapy, but don't watch it before bed, either. Also, blink and you'll miss 'Party Girl' Parker Posey who comes in late in the film as a funloving psychopath who loves murder, too. She looks hot with a gun. Definitely worth the Netflix.
User ReviewDustin Bvery disturbing but i would see it again. the sex scenes were good. and Parker Posey is in it, how about that? I wonder if she was asked today what she thought of this movie? does she regret it? lol. the main guy i think is an ex porn star but im not sure.
User ReviewDennis Fvery strange - worth watching, but one wonders what the intent of the producer was -
User ReviewAaron Mnot good hangover fodder..... aims high... fails and is kinda silly
User ReviewStephen BI loved Dennis Cooper's book, I LOVE Parker Posey, Alexis Arquette and Craig Chester are cool too... but this movie didn't work. It's controversial just to try to adapt the story: you face criticism from GLAAD, you have to make a choice if you are going to show the grotesque violence, and you have the child actor issues if you want to really stay true to the story. Sure, the main elements are pretty much there, but I think the story was changed too much and just didn't have the impact of the book. It's not the worst movie I've ever seen by any means, but it's disappointing if you've read the book and it probably has even less impact for people who haven't read the book.
User ReviewRachel BI didn't care for the book, which was suppose to be shocking. The movie was slightly more interesting, in a weird artsy way. I liked the addition of Parker Posey, instead of the character in the book who was another man, who was rather insignificant as I recall...
User ReviewDemir BI watched this with low expectations, since the amazing book by Dennis Cooper that this movie is based on is heavily psychological and therefore hard to recreate on screen, but this felt like only a half-hearted attempt. The acting is embarrassing. Some of the voice-overs are quite eloquent, but that's simply because they're taken directly from the book, which this movie version ultimately detracts from.
