If they are, what do they mean? What is their significance for us today? In the movie "Four Blood Moons," produced by Rick Eldridge and directed by the Academy Award Winner, Kieth Merrill; these veteran filmmakers illustrate this fascinating phenomenon in a very compelling docu-drama. Cinematic recreations of historical events from the United States, Israel and throughout the Middle East; along with expert testimonials from scientists, historians and religious scholars, are used to illustrate this story told in narrative format by a celebrity host. Just as in biblical times, perhaps God is controlling the sun, the moon, and the stars to send our generation a signal that something big is about to happen. The question is: Are we watching and listening for His message?

The thesis of the movie basically states that history, science, and religion are proving complement each other with the emergence of the blood moons, but in the end, they did not prove this at all. In fact, in the end, they couldn't even describe what their speculation of the arrival of the blood moons were. There was actually very little discussion on the previous four blood moons at all, which was highly disappointing, seeing as I kept hoping and waiting to see when science and religion would interact. The end discussion after the movie brought up some great questions that Hagee himself could not answer (such as if the blood moons are so important this year, why wouldn't Israel be able to see them). After sitting for two hours in this movie, I felt like I was being beaten over the head by the mantra of "blood moons are important this year because they fall on these holy days (nevermind the fact that somewhere in the world in the past 4000 years, I'm sure this has happened before-we just probably didn't know about them or see them), so something fantastical has to happen! Beware and be warned! Protect Israel!" Alas, no one ever explained what it was they think might happen, or why, or even how our current events might reflect bits of history. There was simply no explanation of exactly, precisely why they think these moons are so important this year, or exactly, precisely how science, history, and religion intersect. Maybe the book is better. The movie is a bunch of bunk that never supports it's thesis, projects fantastical tales with little factual root, and doesn't even comment on the significance of the blood moons throughout history (they present 4 important dates, and loosely describe what their importance is, but no one describes where the blood moons were, how they impacted the events, etc). Don't waste your time with this movie.
