User ReviewAndrew LA young couple leave the city life for the husband's ancestral home in the country. Not long after everything's unpacked, things start to unravel quickly. While the movie ends with some 'splaining to do, it has all the elements of a great horror story. This creepy package comes chock full of spooky basement scenes, visions of ghosts, a house with a violent past, strange spousal behavior, and lots of things that go bump in the night!
User ReviewLee ?Yes we have seen it all before (many times) but i enjoyed this movie.
User ReviewJacob PFilled with tons of blood and gore and scary/frightening images, this film is easily one of the best of the After Dark Original series. One of the greatest haunted house movies out there.
User ReviewKyle LFertile Ground is a solid ghost flick with lots of goodies and it is one of the After Dark Originals' finest movies but nowhere as good as the other After Dark films like Seconds Apart and Husk. This movie is about a couple name Nate and Emily Weaver who moves to a new house after Emily's miscarriage and when the couple moves to a new house Emily soon discovered that the house is haunted by the people who died in there as her husband starts to act strange and Emily also discovers that she's pregnant. To be honest I did like the film but I didn't find it as the best After Dark film due to a couple of flaws that the movie suffered and it doesn't capture the magnificent style of Seconds Apart or the intensity of Husk but I did enjoy the movie a lot more over the other After Dark films like 51 and Scream Of The Banshee. What's great about Fertile Ground is that the whole film is full of atmosphere and suspense and the movie's atmosphere is magnificent and shots at night in the house or outside the house are so eerie and full of atmosphere and I love the way the cinematography was well used in this film even the finale is so atmospheric pretty suspenceful at the exact same time and I overall love the way the style of this film a lot. What I also like about this film is that the movie is very dark and brooding and the whole film is full of dark tones after a disturbing opening scene and the movie's tones are so effective and gives the film a very dark feel and I love how the ideas of the film are so well used and Adam Gierasch totally nailed his style in this film a lot. While the last things I like about this film is that the movie is also full of scares and the ghosts itself also looks super creepy and scary and all of the ghosts in this movie are great plus the gore in the movie is so disgusting and nasty and that's also what I like about this movie. Now the movie suffers from a series of flaws. One of my problems with the film is that the film's editing is too polished. The movie is super slow and its like Director Adam Gierasch has some ideas but totally forgot the whole thing when he's making this movie and lastly the acting in times is mediacore I wished it could have been better and the acting in this movie is overall ok not the best but its ok for one reason. Director Adam Gierasch managed to do a fantastic job with his work on this movie a lot and he totally did a fantastic work but I wish he could have made the movie even better if it isn't for the film's flaws but he did a fantastic job with the movie. Overall Fertile Ground gets an 8/10 because this film has a couple of goodies but the movie suffers from a series of flaws and it could have been better for one reason.
User ReviewAndy CAn unusual film that's quite difficult to fit into any horror sub genre. Slightly unusual in places but never the less an enjoyable start to a horror marathon.
User ReviewJohn Eric DA nicely done After Dark Film. There are a lot of disturbing visions that will give you the gripping moments. A passable trademark offered by After Dark.
User ReviewThomas HRather enjoyed the majority of this film, plenty of thrilling moments, and for a cheap movie, it didnt have a horrid quality to it, the only thing that really let it down for me, was the last few minutes or so, but that said, its watchable....
User ReviewJohn MAmityville Horror + The Messengers + Rosemary's Baby = Fertile Ground. Only, they could have been combined much better. In terms of acting, the talents are pretty good, particularly for a C+ horror film that went straight to DVD. The same can be said about the soundtrack. Even the script wasn't awful, though it had it's lagging moments...the real problem was that the plot was so tired. From the very first shot (which, by the way, was female nudity...that's right...the very first shot in the movie. Boobs. No reason), the whole movie was screaming, "Yeah, yeah, we know. Haunted farm, it's been done. Just give us a chance, will ya?". It's not the director or the screenwriter's fault that the producer threw this horse crap at them as a plot, so I gave it 3 stars for being the best it could be under terrible circumstances. If nothing else, the opening 4 minutes of the film as a whole are disturbing enough to keep you watching further.
