RogerEbert.comSheila O'MalleyA successful franchise depends on the hero at its center. Is the hero's personality interesting enough to warrant more? Time will tell, but Falcon Rising is off to a good start.
Detroit NewsTom Long"Falcon Rising" is filled with so many action-flick cliches it could serve as a text on how not to do things.
New York TimesNicolas RapoldMr. Chapman administers some of his (amplified) thwacks and drop kicks with a likable, you-should-know-better air of amusement, recalling a Reagan-era TV cop show.
The DissolveCharles BramescoThe structural missteps do little to diminish the immense pleasure of seeing White in motion, however. When he assumes a combat pose, the generic script and personality-free visuals fall back.
Chicago Daily HeraldDann GireTo the movie's detriment, White doesn't get to show us what he can really do until 30 minutes into the story, then again near the end when he takes on three armed baddies.
Village VoiceSimon AbramsBeyond isolated moments of dickish charm — and his climactic four-way fight involving a sword, a crucifix, and two steel pipes — Chapman just comes across like another pseudo-heroic American behaving badly abroad.
User ReviewJoshua LLove the guys that posted their useless reviews about in GENERAL hating "Macho Gun Porn" and still bothered to watch this movie. It's like going to watch their favorite movies, such as Magic Mike XXL and The Notebook and crying it was just another shitty chick flick that had too many women beating off to the estrogen-fueled scripts. Given it isn't the best movie ever, it is a fun action movie that doesn't take itself seriously like many movies lately that everyone gushes over with the same, convoluted-yet-DEEP plot that seems to get oscar nods in the last few years. Would have given it 4 stars, but have to offset the idiots that only watch 5 minutes into the movie with the INTENT to hate it because they know what it is.
User ReviewAnt MThis is a crisp, beautifully paced action flick that doesn't embarrass itself by trying to do too much. The action in this film puts it in my top five. Michael Jai White is in a class of his own.
