| User ReviewAl SIt`s Desperado meets No Country For Old Men. A sizzling, awesome and explosive blast filled with style, wit, suspense, grittiness and spectacular gunfights that will blow you out of your seat. A wickedly entertaining and hard-boiled blast from start to finish. A red-hot, blisteringly cool and exhilarating action-packed thriller. It`s strong, capable and seriously bad ass. Scott Adkins is terrific, he has the charisma, skills and extremely piercing stair that make him the ideal action hero with the like of Jason Statham and Bruce Willis. Adkins is raw and sensational, he just gets better. Christian Slater is terrific. Director, Eduardo Rodriguez crafts a fun, bloody and utterly fearless action movie that delivers the goods with its compelling story and strong characters. A full-throttle and adrenaline-charged action thrill-ride that's fast, brutally funny and has a high body count. A stylistic and intense western on steroids. |

| User ReviewLuciano GThe movie is a pretty impressive style over substance indie action film........Rodriguez's directing is cool and the script is fun.......there's of course not a lot to the story but the action is almost nonstop and Adkins really shines as an action force to be reckoned with.......it's nice to see someone other than Jason Statham still consistently making cool B action films.......this is good old action loving fun !.. |

| User ReviewMarc LChez les Rodriguez, le Grindhouse, c'est une affaire de famille (notez que je viens de découvrir que Eduardo Rodriguez n'était même pas le cousin de Robert et que du coup, cette phrase d'intro tombe à plat et que c'est con, tant pis). Qui dit "Grindhouse" dit "clichés" : "El gringo" (déjà, ce titre...) ressemble donc à une avalanche de clichés sommairement modelés pour ressembler à un film. On découvre ainsi une petite ville frontière oppressée par des tueurs des cartels carnavalesques et des flics corrompus et un héros égaré à la frontière du bien et du mal (Scott Adkins, qui va vite devenir mon nouvel acteur préféré s'il continue à synthétiser Van Damme, Statham et Seagal avec un tel brio) qui, en sympathisant avec une barmaid mexicaine à gros poumons qui tient mieux la téquila que lui, va comprendre que l'important c'est l'amour et pas les dix millions de dollars volés qu'il trimballe dans son sac à dos. Et comme il est pour la première fois plein d'amour et que ça le fait un peu flipper, il va zigouiller dans les 180 Mexicains des Cartels avant de retrouver son calme. Le problème, c'est que contrairement à son faux-cousin qui, dans "Machete", jouait sans vergogne sur le décalage et le comique involontaire inhérents au cinéma d'exploitation, Eduardo Rodriguez prend son sujet trop au sérieux : il y a des gentils qui gagnent, des méchants qui perdent, de l'humour pas franchement drôle et de grosses giclées d'hémoglobine quand les gentils souffrent ou quand les méchants meurent. Loin d'être la petite perle de second degré espérée, "El gringo" est un Actionner bête et méchant, handicapé par un faible budget et qui se rattrape comme il peut par une violence graphique légèrement au-dessus de la moyenne. Bien entendu, il est possible, envers et contre tout, de considérer la chose au second ou au troisième degré, mais cela réclame tout de même beaucoup d'efforts personnels pour bien peu de résultat. Un réalisateur qui charge Manowar de composer le générique final de son film, ça aurait du mettre la puce à l'oreille quant à ses accointances avec le second degré volontaire... |
