User Review - 6/10 by WK JThis is one of the few Asylum movies that isnâ??t a cheap rip-off of a big budget Hollywood flick. These are the ones I tend to like most as theyâ??re not just trying to rip something else off, but they are actually using their creativity. This one sticks with that, Iâ??m glad to say. The general plot is this: After a group of Vampire Hunters kill a nest, including its Master vampire, which was well-liked by the High Council of Vampires, the Council requests a meeting with all the vampire hunter leaders, in which they offer a truce: They wonâ??t hunt humans anymore, and the hunters donâ??t hunt them anymore. The hunters agree, but with caution as they donâ??t trusts the vampires at all. 5 years later, a rogue vampire is killing humans and the hunters believe itâ??s the long-missing Countess Bathory, so they rally the troops to hunt her and her new nest, however will that move cause for a breaking of the treaty and for the war between vampires and humans to resume? The movie starts off with a very interesting idea. Not only is there a first-person monologue through-out the movie as the narrator writes in his journal, but there are â??chaptersâ?? as well, as if it was a visual novel. The words â??Prologueâ?? â??Chapter 1: followed by a subtitleâ?? ect, appear in fire-filled red burning letters from time to time. Not quite sure what the point of that is, but it IS different and a nice little touch, IMO. Yes, the team of Vampire Hunters do carry various types of guns, and while bullets donâ??t kill vampires, in this movie they do slow them down for a tiny bit. Long enough for someone to get to them with a wooden stake. And thatâ??s one of the strong points I found in this film: the action is never far away, and even when thereâ??s no action on screen, the movie manages to keep you infested through engaging characters and an interesting mythos that it reveals just a bit here and there when it needs to, to keep you interested. There are some parts that didnâ??t make much sense though. Like when a Vamp chick jumps one of the characters from behind and attacks him viciously, she goes to bit his neck, but then as if she canâ??t reach, she tries to bite the other side, and she goes back and forth from side to side, without actually biting him, when its obvious sheâ??s not even trying to stretch her neck to reach him. Some things like that are a bit too noticeable and I think they could have had something else happen there to have him not get bitten, apart from an invisible force holding the vamp from biting his neck. Also, while Iâ??m mentioning things I didnâ??t like, the vampire make-up for when theyâ??re Vamped Out, wasnâ??t really that good, but seeing as how this is a low-budget company, I guess that can be forgiven. Some of the acting is way on the down side, while other parts itâ??s decent. There is one vamp towards the beginning, that when he attacks, he makes sounds like heâ??s in the middle of karate class, even though heâ??s not doing any kind of martial arts at all, heâ??s just jumping and attacked with his claws and teeth, yet heâ??s screaming â??Hi-Yahâ?? and such. On that same note, a lot of fighting looked super-fake and you could tell they were just going through the motions and not really trying to make it look real. However in their defense, the director put the stronger actors in the lead parts and the actors not so good, in the background supporting parts, so they could learn a bit more for the day that they may become main actors in a movie. This was a really smart move. Even though the movie is called Draculaâ??s Curse, the only connection it has to Dracula in any way whatsoever, is a character named Jacob Van Helsing (The narrator of the movie), and Dracula himself shows up briefly at the very end. The only time that Dracula is even ever mentioned apart from those 2 minutes of screentime, is a line of dialogue that says that since the pact forged by Abraham van Helsing and Dracula, the High Council of Vampires has never asked to meet with the human Hunters. Iâ??m sure they could have used some original names here to make this movie just a tad bit more original, seeing as how they werenâ??t going with trying to be a knock-off of anything. So in short, not without its problems, but itâ??s nice to see a studio famous for low-budget rip offs of big budget movies, put out a more original flick. With some time and practice, and sticking to the formula of putting out original flicks, Iâ??m sure they could make their way up to being a respectable company before too long.
User Review - 4/10 by Corey TI will give it credit for having a different story line. The acting however sucked my soul out. Yuck!
User Review - 4/10 by Ryan MFor a super low-budget film chock full of unintentional laughs, this film actually tries to be original. Though it falls flat, at least it didn't rip off other, more successful, films. However, the films is naturally full of flaws. The sound effects and acting are laughable, important names and plot information is chucked up so fast that the viewer doesn't have enough time to absorb it all in. There were also a lot of shots where the boom was just hanging out in the shot. Oh, and the giant lumbering Dracula vampire beast at the end...priceless.
User Review - 2/10 by Wondra VSo much potential and yet it sucked. Majorally.
User Review - 2/10 by Sean CQuite possibly the worse film I have ever seen. I want an hour and a half of my life back. Leigh Scott is the poor mans Uwe Boll (and that is saying something)
