Leave your thoughts about Dr. Cyclops.
CinePassionFernando F. CroceIn Ernest B. Schoedsack's fantasy of characters at the mercy of high and low camera angles, every other shot is a pulp poem
Radio TimesAlan JonesThe standard plot now looks hackneyed, and the cueball-headed Dekker is stereotypically crazy. However, the impressive array of oversize props make this a lot of fun to watch.
New York TimesB.R. CrislerDr. Cyclops is the best bad picture of the year, an epic of silliness, and, more than that, a triumph of the process screen and the department of trick effects all combined very tastefully with Technicolor.
StarburstKieron MooreThe story and characterisation is where this movie falls apart, even given the fact that you know from the start it's going to be schlocky.
User ReviewCory LA beautifully photographed science fiction outing from Ernest Shoadsack. The visual effects and enlarged set used to create the illusion of the shrunken people are all flawless and Albert Deckker is clearly enjoying himself as the villainous doctor. He takes one too many naps for his own good though.
User ReviewDean WNot a cheapie...One of the first technicolor films. For its time a marvel at special effects I'm sure. Has its shocking moments (the shooting of the mexican guy ) and suspensful moments too. The film quality kind of reminded me of the Wizard of Oz. I have the feeling the new film code in effect at the time made them change the ending, I mean the mad doctor should have been stuck in the eye with the half-scissor thng but gets pushed down a well. would have been a good horror flick if not for the censors. Anyway well worth a look...

User ReviewD MA group of scientists are requested to visit another scientist's labortory (which happens to be located deep in the Peruvian jungle). After they are done aiding him in his expiriment, they attept to get him to return to civilzation, but he refuses. He uses the technology he has developed to shrink them to a foot tall. The group of midgets attempt to escape and end up battling nature in the jungle. Filmed in Technicolor and with really good effects, this movie had the same director as King Kong and even received an Oscar nomination (something that I guess was still possible for a horror film back then). If you like this, be sure to catch The Incredible Shrinking Man and Attack of the Puppet People (hell, and even Honey, I Shrunk the Kids). There is NO good reason this has never been put on DVD!
User ReviewCarmelo HThis movie feels like a 50s B movie, and it's pretty much the same story as the late 50s movie, Attack of the Puppet People, but Dr. Cyclops got there first. This movie has cool special effects, which reminded me of 50s movies, and I was surprised to see such effects in a movie from 1940. It's not a fantastic story by today's standards, but this movie is still pretty cool when you think about it.
