CinePassion - 9/10 by Fernando F. CroceThe signature Fulci bit is also a devastating culmination of the film's autopsy of corrupt patriarchy
Starburst - 9/10 by Michael ColdwellCruel, beautiful and all the colours in between, Don't Torture a Duckling is a compelling and beguiling work from a greatly underrated filmmaker.
Under the Radar - 9/10 by Austin Trunick[Duckling] doesn't hit the surreal heights of later films such as City of the Living Dead or The Beyond, but it's one of the best entries in the director's early filmography.
User Review - 10/10 by Zack ECouldn't anyone come up with a good DVD cover for this? I mean it's a good movie so it should have a good cover
User Review - 10/10 by Christopher SA masterpiece, easily one of Italian horror maestro Lucio Fulci's finest. Despite it's low budget and B-movie trappings, a masterfully-crafted work of gothic surrealism that takes the giallo genre to new heights with its novel camerawork, offbeat characters, tense atmosphere, and a great score by Riz Ortalani. One of the true masterpieces of Italian exploitation.
User Review - 10/10 by Anu KRemarkable for the script, and for showing children as they tend to be... Florinda Bolkan has to play an epileptic seizure scene.
User Review - 10/10 by Tommaso CNot yet the "godfather of gore", Fulci didn't really come into his own until Zombi 2, seven years later. Nice ending though.
User Review - 10/10 by mike pWhile it may not be the best giallo film ever made, Don't Torture a Duckling is indeed Fulci's masterpiece. It is a twisted story ripe with mystery and superstition, where the virtues and vices of each colourful character will literally keep the viewer guessing until the final scene. The subject matter is extremely dark here, and it somehow manages to become even more disturbing as the plot unfolds. But somehow Fulci manages to combine this intriguing mystery with his trademark qualities, injecting Don't Torture a Duckling with its fair share of gore and sleaze without having it descend into exploitation. The result is something refreshing: a gore flick with some taste and a murder-mystery with some gall. Certainly a recommended film.
User Review - 10/10 by devastator9 .Some have said this is Fulci's best film. I can't be certain of that yet being I've seen seven of his 30-some-odd films. But of of the rest of his work, this is the one to top for sure. It's professionally crafted but with some real artistry (Dutch angles!), Barbara Boucher in an unforgettable scene with a young boy (not entirely inappropriate but borders on it), some violence that never goes over the top, only goes so far for the horror of the scenes depicted (Fulci doesn't show the boys' deaths, only the beating the crazy witch-lady takes after she's released from jail, and at the end for the real murderer as a face is splintered away on the rocks). It's still "just" a Giallo, but it's one of the three or four that I could be considered essentials.
User Review - 10/10 by Moe RA Fulci masterpiece? You bet! Without a shadow of a doubt, this 1972 Italian film is quite simply one of Fulci's all-time greatest works, alongside THE BEYOND and ZOMBIE FLESH EATERS. Whilst not quite as gory as these two, this classic giallo still remains both powerful and shocking with its theme of kiddy murders, child seduction and a truly brutal beating bound to send shivers up your spine. With a cast and crew bound to get any fan of cult cinema excited (including Florinda Bolkan from FLAVIA: THE HERETIC and LIZARD IN A WOMAN'S SKIN, Tomas Millan from DJANGO, KILL! and ALMOST HUMAN as well as a haunting score from music maestro Riz `CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST' Ortolani), this film is a must have for any cult connoisseur or fan of whodunit thrillers. Packaged in an eye catching yellow case, this film will stand out in your collection and if, like me, you're not a fan of the front artwork, the reverse cover is beautiful! This release is however let down by the lack of many extras, BUT this is made up for with a great little booklet full with interesting information. An incredible giallo which still remains a shocking experience and that rivals the very best of Argento. Who's behind all these child murders? This film will keep you guessing right to the end! Highly recommended.
