eFilmCritic.comRob GonsalvesOne unforgettable scene. The rest is boredom.
Antagony & EcstasyTim BraytonThe violence it depicts is not nearly as off-putting as the perfunctory misogyny the film evinces, and even that isn't half so obscene as the ridiculously shabby quality of the whole thing.
VODzilla.coAnton Bitela slasher that, for all its derivativeness, always retains our sympathy for its central bogeyman, ensuring that it is as much tragedy as horror.
User ReviewJoshua GThe most brutal horror film made during the most brutal decade ever. Quentin couldn't and wouldn't make (or produce) any film like this. But he did produce a 'grindhouse' triple feature at a true grindhouse on Hollywood blvd a few yrs. back. This closed the show. All-time great night of cinema.
User ReviewWayne ZDonny builds a metal room in his house. He brings a girl home, bashes her over the head, removes her clothes and leaves her chained by the hands to a hook which comes from the ceiing in his metal room. The door flys open and Donny enters wearing a flame proof suit and carrying a flame thrower. How they did the effect of the girl as she burns i don't know. Alegedly, it was a really skinny girl in a body suit but i'm not convinced! Anyway, it's a really good effect and if i had read this review some years ago then i would have wanted to see this film.
User ReviewIan BVery twisted psycho killer film reminiscent of Maniac but rather than gore, this seems to focus on fire. Still a lot of nudity and brutality. Makes you feel kind of grimy afterwards. Very underrated
User Reviewdrain ba pretty cool pyro-slasher style movie from 79. this film takes its cue from "psycho" and is influential to the 1980 "Maniac" definitely under rated. and most def worth watching. Really creepy at some points, highly entertaining, and slightly disturbing in all its fantastical cheese!
User ReviewAllan CSo good I watched it twice in the last 9 months. A different kind of slasher that successfully breaks down the killer into a character study using voice overs and disturbing hallucination/dream sequences. A genuinely good movie
User ReviewEvan MAwesomely insane and twisted horror/exploitation film with some brutal death scenes and an ever-mounting level of craziness.
User ReviewRodney SAn 80's exploitation movie that Quinten Tarantino describes as the most disturbing movie he's ever seen. If you compare it to a movie like Martyrs it's certainly not as disturbing but it is a pretty nasty film. It's basically about a man who goes crazy due to abuse as a child and develops an interest in setting women on fire. It has one extremely horrific and shocking scene fairly early on but unfortunately the remainder of the movie isn't as graphic. It's a great sick and creepy movie though which actually has something to say, even if it's nothing that deep. A cult classic for sure. Something that amused me though is you do actually find yourself shouting the title during the movie.
