EmanuelLevy.Com - 9/10 by Emanuel LevyStale, earnest, and dignified (like most of Henry King films), this Biblical saga primarily served as star vehicle for Gregory Peck and Susan Hayward.
Film4 - 9/10 by Richard LuckEntertaining less as a Bibilical epic than as an epic exercise in extreme camp.
User Review - 10/10 by Byron MGregory Peck and Susan Hayward set the screen afire whenever they are together in this epic true story of love, adultery, loss and redemption!
User Review - 10/10 by Ashley HDavid and Bathsheba is an incredible film. It is about King David's affair with Bathsheba. Gregory Peck and Susan Hayward give amazing performances. The screenplay is well written. Henry King did a great job directing this movie. I enjoyed watching this motion picture because of the drama and romance. David and Bathsheba is a must see.

User Review - 8/10 by William WI have to admit that I greatly enjoy the swords-and-sandals genre, whether of Christianity or of other types. This was solidly directed by King and had strong performances by Peck, Hayward and Massey, and was greatly touching at the end when David discovers the overwhelming and incredible power of forgiveness, particularly he of himself. Heartily recommended--it deserved its five Oscar nominations, even though it wasn't much of a cinematic year, to be sure.
User Review - 8/10 by Heather MIt is entertaining. Goes beyond the Bible to make for good entertainment, but we must remember most if this stuff isn't Biblical, even if it is entertaining ;)
User Review - 8/10 by Tim BPossibly the best of the old classic bible films. Excellent cinematography and effects considering it was filmed in 1951. Gregory Peck is believable and excellent as King David. The dialogue is a bit trite at times, but still generally strong. Susan Hayward is beautiful and solid in the role, and Raymond Massey is a delight as Nathan. A bit plodding at times, but an engaging telling of one of the most famous stories of all time.
User Review - 8/10 by Erik WA fairly good movie although a bit slow in some parts. Gregory Peck was definately not at his best in this film. I personally would have chosen Laurence Olivier for the role of King David because it just seemed to me that would have been perfect for him. Leon Shamroy does well with the cinematography because Cinemascope was revealed in 1953. Well scored by Alfred Newman.
User Review - 8/10 by Scott REarly production in the mid 20th century collection of biblical tales, David & Bathsheba was the last pre-widescreen film before the era of super epics began with The Robe (first Cinemascope film). David & Bathsheba recounts the story of King David's torrid romance with Bathsheba, wife of one of his soldiers. Gregory Peck brings his intense demeanor to this iconic role. Susan Hayward, titian haired beauty, is the lovely Bathsheba, who sins with the king, knowing full well the consequences might be dire. Alfred Newman has accompanied the film with an excellent score, concluding with a moving choral version of the 23rd Psalm (The Lord is my shepherd...). The only real action sequence is the confrontation with Goliath, shown as a flashback. The rest is old fashioned melodrama, not that that is a bad thing.
