Common Sense Media - 4/10 by Renee SchonfeldLive-action tale about high school besties has peril.
User Review - 10/10 by John GThis movie was clever, funny, and visually appealing. The effects are pretty good considering the low-budget nature of the film. THe two leads are phenomenal, and it got some genuine laughs out of me. The relationship between Daphne and Velma is well-established and develops over the course of the film. The mystery is predictable but no less interesting and the reasons behind the villains motives were really interesting. Give it a watch if you like mysteries and strong female leads!

User Review - 10/10 by Lane NThe movie was nice. There was some scenes that made me laugh. It's not that bad and I enjoyed it. People like to hate on everything, so ignore them. It's family friendly too which is a plus. The acting was good and somewhat cheesy but overall I loved it.

User Review - 10/10 by Jennifer LShame stickers. Robot sacrifices. Getting your fruit on. And the friendship origin story of two of our favorite teen sleuths (pre-Mystery Machine.) Director Suzi Yoonessi's "Daphne and Velma" shines, managing to keep a perfect balance between spot on Scooby Doo references and reenvisioning the franchise in a playful but grounded manner that's wholly new. The writing is just the right mix of goofiness; keeping the mildly spooky and cartoonish flavor of the original series, while surprisingly bringing a lot of heart and sincerity to what is in essence a girl buddy film. Which, by the way, there are far too few of. The female positivity in the movie makes it a solid choice for parents who are tired of one note girl characters. It's interesting how what's ostensibly a kid flick does a better job of passing the Bechdel Test (i.e. scenes where at least two women or girls have a conversation that covers something other than men) than most mainstream adult fare. The casting is awesome - it's a lively collection of dedicated performers who all bring nuance to their parts (large or small.) It's also refreshingly diverse - to include the fact that Daphne comes from a bi-racial family. (Yay! Note to Hollywood, can we get more of this please?) There's sight and sound gags galore - kudos to the design and editing team - making for a movie that begs for repeat viewing to catch them all. It's an engaging ride for both the kids it was made for, as well as the parents who will be watching with them. Given that many parents like me spent many a Saturday morning with the gang from Scooby Doo, it was really great to get to know them again, now with my kid in tow. I feel like we really need more movies like this in the family live action space - I look forward to hopefully seeing more from this talented team.
User Review - 10/10 by Sarah SI really wanted to hate this movie... but I just can't. It gave an updated version of the franchise while staying true to the source material, had solid (though completely ridiculous) characters and plot, and a lot of well-placed fan service and callbacks. But most importantly, it captured the heart and spirit of the Scooby-Doo franchise. 10-out-of-10, I hope there's gonna be a sequel that'll introduce the rest of the gang.
User Review - 6/10 by Matthew SThis movie was pretty good, hope there is a sequal because this never explained how they met shaggy or fred, also I wish it told how they met online
User Review - 4/10 by Colton CNot only does this movie provide a lackluster mystery with the grand twist a little too cartoon-y, it also tries to rewrite the live action Scooby Doo canon. Yes, this is technically a spin-off and it could be argued that it's separate from the continuity, but the problem is it's a little TOO separate from the continuity. It doesn't feel like a Scooby Doo movie, and the characters don't feel like Daphne and Velma. Velma definitely does not feel like Velma. The setting alone is enough to throw off the audience that's expecting a fun Scooby Doo type mystery. It's a nice-looking movie from a visual standpoint, but the best part of the movie is when the jocks have random dialogue with each other, because at least that feels like it belongs in the movie. Everything the characters do and every new plot point just continues to feel out of place as this movie tries to rehash the villain from Scooby Doo Camp Scare combined with, quoting another reviewer here, the villain from Sky High, but failing at it all as it tries to create this new setting that is in no way plausible in this reject Disney Channel Original Movie. This movie could have worked fine as a separate entity from the Scooby Doo universe, but then I'm afraid it wouldn't have had ANY buzz around it. The problem with Daphne & Velma is that it's not Scooby Doo, nor is it a Daphne and Velma spinoff movie. While some young children might find some joy in its story and execution, the movie fails to appeal to anyone over the age of 8 years old, and that's being generous. It's not a mindless movie by any means. It's got nerve as shown in its attempt to explain Daphne's perfect-ness, but all that falls flat to a mediocre story that wouldn't even sustain a 20 minute episode of the cartoon. Daphne & Velma should not have been made as a Scooby Doo spinoff, and its shallow attempts to try and be one unfortunately contradict everything about the canon's lore and even the canon of the characters themselves.
