Movie Reviews

Sight and Sound - 8/10 by John WrathallRoy Scheider is perfect casting as the hardened pro Cohen, who tells his partner he's been doing this job for 30 years; you just have to look at that Mount Rushmore profile to know what he's been through.
Film Racket - 8/10 by Mike McGranaghanCohen & Tate is, at times, shockingly violent and, at other times, darkly funny. A solid, entertaining little thriller.
The Dissolve - 7/10 by Scott TobiasGiven the restrictions of being a first-time director on a limited budget, Red didn't conceive Cohen & Tate to be different than other films of its ilk. He just opted to do it better.
User Review - 10/10 by Jessica HIts a generation gap for mafia hitmen as they drive a child back to their employer. After killing the boy's mother and father in a rather gruesome opening scene, the film has a terrific start. Roy Schieder unfortunately isn't a good guy in this one but he's worth watching as he's a better person than his young hot head partner Tate (Adam Baldwin). Cohen and Tate are two mafia hitmen who don't exactly hit it off. Cohen is an old pro, a cold-blooded killer who is all about business. Tate is a young hot-head who kills for fun. Together, they kidnap 9-year-old Travis Knight, an eyewitness to a recent mob rub out. Now, they've got 24 hours to deliver him to Houston for interrogation and elimination. Realizing their mutual hatred is his only hope, Travis plays this lethal odd couple against one another. But when their volatile words explode into a fiery gun battle, he's caught in the crossfire. The obviously more talented Scheider is so much better than Baldwin, who over acts as a psycho. Having the boy outwit these two is of course, pure fiction and hurts credibility. But still, who knows what goes on in such a tense filled situation. The saving grace of the film is Roy Scheider, the aging but still professional. With hearing aid and all, he lets us know who's boss. I heartedly recommend this tense thriller for all that love criminal action flicks. Its a long ride to Houston in this ride to hell. User Review - 8/10 by Antony VOne of those films that no one has ever seen. Never been released on DVD, which is a crying shame. Written and directed by Eric Red, who wrote The Hitcher and Near Dark, this film shares the same kind of fatalistic, road-movie vibe. Roy Scheider (Jaws) and Adam Baldwin (Firefly) play professional hitmen who have to transport a young boy, who is a witness to a mafia killing, to their bosses, where he will presumably be killed. Scheider is an ice cold professional. Baldwin is a psychopath. During thier long car journey, the boy recognises the tensions between the two hitmen, and realises his only chance of survival is to play them off against each other. This is a taut film without an ounce of fat on it. I still have my trusty VHS copy, but someone please bing it out on DVD!

User Review - 6/10 by Carlos IDecent little road movie, with a unique twist on it. Scheider is great as usual, but Baldwin is a little too over the top at times. The kid is surprisingly good. It's quite the dark movie actually.
User Review - 6/10 by Michael ACohen and Tate came as a surprise to me because I hadn't really ever heard of it before receiving it. It stars Roy Scheider and Adam Baldwin as two hit men. After killing his parents, they kidnap a little boy to deliver him to mobsters in Houston. Along the way, the two become rivals and go through hell trying to keep track of the kid. Personally, I found the film to be pretty good, but not much more than mediocre, I'm afraid. I like how dark it is and how it doesn't really pull many punches when it comes to the violence, but the kid annoyed me to no end with his incessant whining and crying. This had the potential to be a really tight thriller with some class, but classy it isn't. It works well enough but doesn't warrant a second viewing.
