User Review - 10/10 by Gordon TTHE weakest of the three or four LUCIO FULCI ZOMBIE FILMS (ZOMBI 2, THE GATES OF HELL, THE BEYOND) (House By the Cemetery is sometimes called a zombie film--see STARBURST MAGAZINE #48)). (aka) THE GATES OF HELL annoys people because it doesn't make a lot of coherent sense and the ending doesn't make sense . . . The Ending: Rosemary Woodhouse (KATROINA MACALL) (sort of) DIES during a seance and is (quasi) restored to life and then "dies" (shatters and or dematerializes) at the end as part of some-kind of fate. Also there must have been something cut from the film because when STEVE BELL (CHRISTOPHER GEORGE) and Rosemary are chatting during the ride-up to DUNWICH the conversation includes reference to a meeting with ADRIEN DeNIRO and there's no ADRIEN DeNIRO mentioned in the film up to this point. I'm sure "they" cut scenes out of classic ZOMBIE movies and have outtake reels and things just as "they" do with films here. Its a really weak 100% though and earns a 100% only because of its CLASSIC STATUS. I love the music by FABIO FRIZZI. CHAS. BALUN was the first guy to take the original BEATs Lp records of the Italian soundtracks and make bootleg cds. The best CHAS. BALUN disc is the one with the Japanese-issue ZOMBIE 45rpm record. When that cd came in the mail, I flipped with excitement. FINALLY the "soundtrack" to ZOMBIE -- now there are 5 ZOMBIE soundtracks --each one is better than the previous issuance. CHAS. BALUN will never be forgotten!!!!! neither will SHAWN SMITH and BLACKESTHEART MEDIA!!!!! ever be forgotten.

User Review - 10/10 by Tristan POften dismissed as a 'dry run' for Lucio Fulci's similar The Beyond, City of the Living Dead is actually a great, terrifying film in it's own right. Fulci has never laid on the spooky atmospher thicker, and the film's feeling of dread steadily mounts until the nightmarish climax set in the creepiest underground crypt in movie history. The music is also highly effective, particularly the pulsing piece that plays over the climax. The ending makes no sense, really, but the rest of the film is so perfect it doesn't really detract from the overall enjoyablity of the film.
User Review - 10/10 by dale cI guess the reason Im so enamored by this movie is I seen it when I was a little kid. I remember just seeing it previewed before a movie and the preview scared me. Not even really sure why, the way they had this noise to warn you in the preview that they were gonna show you something scarey. I know I couldnt wait to see it. Ive always had and always will have a love for any movie that can scare me. And when I was a kid this one that did it for me. Hell its been like 15 years since I first seen this movie and to this day if I throw it in to watch it still gives me the creeps.
