CITIZEN SOLDIER is a dramatic feature film, told from the point of view of a group of Soldiers in the Oklahoma Army National Guard's 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, known since World War II as the "Thunderbirds." Set in one of the most dangerous parts of Afghanistan at the height of the surge, it is a heart-pounding, heartfelt grunts' eye-view of the war. A modern day Band of Brothers, Citizen Soldier tells the true story of a group of Soldiers and their life-changing tour of duty in Afghanistan, offering an excruciatingly personal look into modern warfare, brotherhood, and patriotism. Using real footage from multiple cameras, including helmet cams, these Citizen Soldiers give the audience an intimate view into the chaos and horrors of combat and, in the process, display their bravery and valor under the most hellish of conditions.

What made this film special is that since the soldiers filmed it, audiences are able to see what really goes on while overseas. You see the bond that these men and women form, through the good times and the bad, and how they truly become a band of brothers. I thought this was an amazing movie, and it was really touching seeing how brave and dedicated these soldiers were when it came to serving our country. This is a movie you should absolutely watch if you haven't already.

While battling in the most dangerous parts of Afghanistan, these men experience difficult and life-changing circumstances as they sacrifice themselves to protect our beloved country. Never before have I seen such an authentic and genuine military documentary that accurately captures what it's actually like to be on the front lines. Using helmet-cameras to document their experiences in Afghanistan, these men provide the audience with a realistic and raw view into the harsh realities of war. After watching this moving film, I was left with a deeper appreciation and greater respect for the men and women who battle to guard the United States and its citizens. The startling gunshots and harsh conditions of their battles in Afghanistan gave the audience a greater perspective and insight into the difficult lives of military personnel. Their courage and bravery displayed while deployed oversees was truly amazing, and I thank directors David Salzberg and Christian Tureaud for inviting me into their inspirational and moving documentary that authentically displayed the duties of our armed forces.

User Review - 10/10 by LizAlexander841Citizen Soldier is a new critically-acclaimed military documentary about a group of men and women in the Oklahoma National Guard and their tour of duty in the most dangerous parts of Afghanistan. Although I did appreciate the intense go-pro footage of the soldiers actually in combat, I felt that the most distinguishing part of this film was the brotherhood between the National Guard members. This film showed just how far a soldier would go to protect their fellow soldier in combat. It was also incredibly touching to see how heroic and brave everyday national guard members are to leave their jobs and families at home to fight for our country. This inspiring film gives an intimate perspective of what soldiers actually go through in combat and is unlike any military film of its kind in doing this. It is a great watch.
User Review - 10/10 by riroshan93Filmmaker’s David Salzberg and Christian Tureaud took documentary film making to a new level by intercutting emotional interviews with raw action footage taken from the front-lines through helmet-cams. These techniques created a truly immersive experience, I really felt like I was on the battlefield, navigating the terrain and reacting to flying bullets with our soldiers. Though I was impressed by their bravery in combat, I was most connected to the soldiers who were able to share their tour experiences. It’s amazing to see the relationship that forms between these men and women during their time overseas. Their love extends onto the front-lines, and you realize not only are they fighting to protect our country, they are fighting to protect each other and make sure they get home safely. I definitely recommend it.
