The Coast (Halifax, Nova Scotia)Tara ThorneMike Goldbach wrote Childstar in 2004; this is his first feature as writer-director, and it's nimble and full of visual tricks, funny and sexy, yet somehow a suspenseful thriller.
Film ScoutsJason GorberMcKeller has crafted a sweet, witty film without employing cliche characterizations and pat plot points.
Filmcritic.comNorm SchragerMcKellar's starring turn -- along with a strong final scene -- help him save his own film from the unfortunate crap heap
User ReviewKays VCanadian Film at it's best. 3 words to describe Childstar would be Funny,Sad,Beautiful. Don Mckellar made a fantastic film that I cannot describe. Great performances from EVERYONE involved. Mark Rendall who plays the title character is fantastic in this film. His character develops so much in this film. I really reccomend it.
User ReviewAshley TA great satire on filmmaking, celebrity culture, and Canadian/American relations. Simultaneously humourous and poignant. Mark Rendall is a rare truly gifted young actor. Great cast all-around.
User ReviewCourtney SIt's not perfect, but besides [insert your name here] what is?
User ReviewCampbell Kdon mckellar's childstar has the feel of canadian cinema, but goes much further in it's pursuit of the obscene lifestyles of child actors. definitely a dramatic satire that has many laughs, but also the moments were you can see through the exterior of the protagonist. it's such a great film to watch in this, our age of voyeuristic celebrity worshipping.
User ReviewHeather MAny movie with Don McKellar is automatically three stars. Throw in a joke about "The Mother and The Whore," and I'm so there.
User ReviewPrivate UMeh, it's okay. Don McKellar is pretty awesome. Some parts I just didn't care though.
User ReviewPJ EGreat. Plus Jennifer Jason Leigh is in it.
