Sci-Fi Movie PageJames O'EhleyThe only scary thing in the entire movie is actor Ian Hendry's resemblance to George W. Bush . . .
USA TodayMike ClarkA dull, pretentious successor to that marvelous little chiller of several seasons ago, "Village of the Damned." What a comedown.
User ReviewKatie SFantastically Spooky especially the original.
User ReviewMeghan :John Wyndham's "Midwich Cuckoos" brought to life in a totally compelling and chilling film. You need to watch this with somebody!
User ReviewAndy LThis and the village are pretty freaky shit.
User ReviewBarry LThis gets a bit of a rough ride but I think it stands up on its own. Well acted, although the ending is a bit muddled.
User Reviewcody rA truly worthy sequel to The Village of the Damned. Children of the Damned continues to be a creepy kids film, but it uses the basic premise of the film to critique the Cold War strategy of M.A.D. (Mutually Assured Destruction). The children in the film are each from a different country, each of which wants their brilliance to help develop new weapons that will give them an advantage in the arms race. But the children hold together as image of the world living in peace, an image that the film demonstrates to be naively utopian. A brilliant piece of sci-fi horror that should not be missed.
User ReviewFloyd CI prefer this to the originial. While the first was a straight forward genre piece the sequel holds political messages and tends to be much more of a drama-thriller than a horror film. I read all the reviews for the first and then for this and wonder what people see in the original film. It is tame, slow moving, and predictable. The scariest thing is the fact that some of the women are accused of being unfaithful to their husbands when they get pregnant. The sequel avoids the cheesy scares and tells a story with an actual point that left me wondering quite a few things. In my opinion, this one is way better than the previous film was.
User ReviewJacob ONot as much of a horror film as a sci-fi political thriller, but it works quite well in that vein. If you want the creepy scares, stick with "Village", but if you want more of a compelling message, this one still delivers.
User ReviewEric HBeautifully made and strikingly ambiguous "sequel" to the creepy original. This time, the kids are not so obviously "evil" and while the revelation that they are evolved humans comes completely out of the blue, it is a nice touch. The film looks fantastic, the sharp b&w photography is gorgeous and the script is witty and intelligent. The final revelation as to why the children are here is genuinely chilling. Recommended.
