User Review - 10/10 by Alex KExcellent 80s popcorn flick...Oh yeah and Jeffrey Combs and Yvonne De Carlo are in it!
User Review - 10/10 by Ian BThis film kicks ass. Has everthing you need in it. Blood, gore, jefferey combs, satanic books, a cellar, a dweller, and even a babe. Reminiscent of Stuart Gordon type movies, worth watching if you're a fan
User Review - 6/10 by Patrick DBy the name of the film I'm sure you'll know if you'll like it or not. If it's your cup of tea, then it's a delicious one. Still unsure? Well there's an early cameo of Jeffrey Combs in the opening scene... if that interests you, then this is a flick for you.
User Review - 6/10 by Bill KBetter than average B-horror about a comic book artist who's art foretells the future. Decent monster and the movie ingeniously uses storyboard art as part of the story and cost cutting. Coombs is only in the intro.
User Review - 6/10 by Alex GFamous comic book artist Colin Childress (Jeffrey Combs) is the artist of a popular Horror comic Cellar Dweller and stupidly uses a dusty old tome, The Curses of the Ancient Dead as an inspiration for his lurid tales of terror. Unfortunately, he doesn't realize that the incantations he is using for inspiration actually work and brings one of his horrific creations to life. Combs manages to stop the creature but at the cost of his own life. Years later, Combs former studio has become an artists retreat to which perky young Whitney Taylor (Deborah Mullowney) arrives. She is a disciple of the late Childress and wants to follow in his footsteps. The woman running the retreat, Mrs. Briggs (Yvonne De Carlo) resents our heroine and she must contend with a former art school rival (Pamela Bellwood) and a PI turned mystery writer (Vince Edwards looking like Stacey Keach). Will Whitney find the ancient tome and will history repeat itself? It would be a pretty poor excuse for a direct-to-video Horror from from the late 1980s if she did. Its entertaining enough and not too long with the requisite amount of gore to satisfy genre fans and Cheryl Ann Wilson takes a predictable shower. The creature is a guy in a suit which is not that impressive but has a certain amount of charm lacking in many of today's CGI monstrosities.
User Review - 6/10 by Jeff LFrom the director of "Troll" and "Ghoulies Go to College" comes "Cellar Dweller." An1950s EC Comics-like artist, played by the great Jeffrey Combs (our modern day Vincent Price), creates a new monster for his horror comic, The Cellar Dweller. The creates then kills Combs and the film then picks up in modern time where a new comic book artist decides to bring back the character. You can guess what happens next. It's a pretty silly story, but it is an entertaining one. The film was written by Don Mancini, who'd go on to write the Child's Play/Chucky movies for the next four decades. "Cellar Dweller" benefits from a decent cast of past movie stars (Yvonne De Carlo,Vince Edwards) and names of the moment (Combs, Debrah Farentino, Brian Robbins). The film also features some decent creature effects and better than average photography for low budget horror films, which in this case was done by Sergio Salvati, who worked on a number of Lucio Fulci films. Overall, this is solid low budget horror entertainment from the reliable genre producer Charles Band.
User Review - 6/10 by Sean NVery cool creature effects/design story is interesting just the rest of the movie didn't keep up
User Review - 6/10 by Tasos Lthe opening with Jeffrey Combs is the best scene of the film!!
User Review - 4/10 by Kenny MIt's exactly what you would expect from a low budget horror movie in the 80's. But it does have Jeffery Combs/
User Review - 4/10 by Joey TThe monster is worth 1 star but the memories are worth another
