Leave your thoughts about The Munsters.
RogerEbert.comScout TafoyaA completely innocent, at times screamingly funny movie that’s mostly about an idealized world made of '60s cultural icons, a slicing of reality’s fabric so we might step directly into Zombie’s visions of his past sitting in front of the TV.
The Film StageEthan VestbyWith little in the way of narrative outside a real-estate scam subplot, the company of its characters and Zombie’s formal verve are The Munsters‘ selling point. It’s a true case of “your mileage may vary.”
ConsequenceAl ShipleyAs an extended aesthetic exercise with purposefully cheesy jokes, it might be nice if The Munsters had anything to say, anything at all.
The PlaylistCarlos AguilarFor the most part, the comedy in Zombie’s The Munsters is low brow, the vibrantly gaudy locales could pass for displays found inside of a Spirit Halloween store, and the acting rejects subtly like bloodsuckers do garlic, all of which often feel exactly as they are supposed to be. Zombie is an artist that operates on a strange wavelength has likely made his most sincere work to date, fulfilling the brassy exhumation of these weirdos.
The A.V. ClubLeigh MonsonAs a love letter to the sitcom that so inspired Zombie as a child, The Munsters might be the most authentic-feeling television revival ever put on film, warts and all.
VarietyOwen GleibermanThe film is a lot like its hero, Herman Munster: benignly dim-witted, Day-Glo in color, top-heavy with tomfoolery, lumbering in one direction and then the next, always cracking itself up in an innocently aggressive monster-mash way.
IGNMatt DonatoThe Munsters is a wholesome labor of love that’s probably for the most diehard sitcom fans because for better and worse, Rob Zombie makes the Munsters reboot he wants to see.
TheWrapWilliam BibbianiZombie’s film, though clearly sweet and well-intentioned, seems only partially formed, a Frankenstein monster with only half the parts.
ColliderAlyse WaxUltimately, The Munsters is not a good movie. But it is great fodder to put on in the background of a Halloween party. It is best when used as a visual asset; something you may only want to catch a couple of minutes of dialogue from, but otherwise, it’s best left as background imagery.
User ReviewAnthoneyLHallI thoroughly enjoyed the movie from beginning to end. It had all of the goofy humor of the original, the same loveable characters, and a few aspects of horror sprinkled on top. I usually detest Rob Zombie films, but this one won me over. I know there will be lots of bad reviews, and honestly probably from people who didn't bother watching the film, but I highly recommend it (as a fan of the original show I highly recommend it). Hopefully a sequel is in taks because I'd love to see where he takes this story.
