Jinks is a cobbler in a boot shop who doesn't much like his craft. His overbearing, nagging wife just adds to his misery. When an army officer comes in to have his uniform cleaned, Jinks takes a wild chance to get away by wearing the outfit. But he's seen by other soldiers and is swept into the general's office and given a reward for some battlefield heroics. He's soon found out and arrested.... (Full plot summary below)
