Leave your thoughts about Caesar's Messiah: The Roman Conspiracy to Invent Jesus.
Village VoiceEdmund NewtonAtwill and other scholars maintain that the Romans were ingenious in pulling off the pacifist hoax, so useful to the ruthless men who administered the Roman empire. They were able to "create a type of Judaism that was benign," says one commentator.
VarietyGeoff BerkshireAccording to "Caesar's Messiah," Jesus Christ is an entirely fictional character and the New Testament is nothing but pro-Roman, anti-Semitic propaganda. That's quite a provocative premise for such a didactic, monotonous and unconvincing documentary.
User ReviewEinar DI guess it really IS the end times. Y'know, according to the Fatima prophesy, Benedict XVI is the second-to-last pope. This film is very well edited and the interviews were well lit, etcetera, etc... But it really needs to be said that the producers leave the viewer to reflect on the implications of this discovery, yet it doesn't seem to promote an agenda. Most docs of this nature push a fanatical bend that not only turns off viewers but makes that filmmaker look like a nut. Caesar's Messiah is decidedly non-nutty and Joseph Atwill presents his findings in a clear fashion which doesn't have a 'I HAZ DA TROOTH!!' feel about it. I'm glad someone finally found this out. The sad thing is that it's been in plain sight this whole time.
