The film's title character, Francis, lives with his invalid, abusive mother in a dingy tenement apartment, and has suffered a life of unrelenting misfortune and brutality. Over time, he has withdrawn from the world and into himself, silently observing others rather than interacting with them. His only solace has been his Catholicism, but he has begun to question his faith in a loving God who could countenance so much evil and pain. When he discovers he can see into the apartment of a beautiful, mysterious woman from his own back stairs, Francis cannot stop watching her, even after he meets her and they become romantically involved. Unable or unwilling to believe that she could actually love him, he becomes ever more obsessive in his voyeurism. And it is what Francis sees - or thinks he sees - that leads ultimately to his undoing.

| User ReviewLisa RThis movie was great!!! Aiden Gillen "Francis" spent a lot of time peeping on this girl who lived in the building next to him. He ends up meeting her in a strange way and it gets even stranger when he (even though he is going over to her house he is still spying on her) starts to imagine seeing things that make him think shes not the girl shes making herself out to be. It was really twisted and you have to REALLY pay attention to details to understand it. It started off weird then it got creepy then it ended off even weirder. |

| User ReviewMichael Rthis is one of those strange, quiet films. i love the lead actor here, real intense. the story is pretty slow moving but you really can't look away. the audio clips of the hxc metal he listens to are pretty bizarre when paired with this soft spoken, introverted character. his breakdown of faith comes about in large part because the girl he's spying on appears not to be the vegan she claims to be...and then the ending? i think he lifted up the rug, and found some secret place where she kept the bodies of the people she killed and ate, which means his outlook on life is more depressing than ever. |
