Leave your thoughts about Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band: London Calling Live in Hyde Park.
User ReviewMichael DThe latest concert vid from Bruce and the Band. Filmed in Hyde Park they headlined the Hard Rock Calling festival in 2009. The Good: It's Bruce and The Band for Chrissake! Need I say more? The Awesome: "Racing In The Street" - one of my favourites; "No Surrender"; great HD photography (I only have the DVD - would be amazin' in Blu); "Good Lovin'" The Bad: A bizarre Seeger Sessions style folky cheery reworking of the really quite sombre "Johnny 99" from the not-at-all happy "Nebraska" album, complete with crowd participation "wooh wooh" train horn sounds! The Bizarre: Bruce's wig/weave turns increasingly ginger as the gig wears on. The Sad: That these guys, while still rocking harder than anyone else on the planet, are getting on a bit. One's already died (the great Danny Federici), The Big Man Clarence Clemons is on a new pair of hips, Little Stevie increasingly resembles a wrinkly Teletubbie and the rest are all creaking. Catch them while you can - you'll miss them when they're gone. The Bottom Line: Buy this now.
User ReviewLisa MAwesome stuff by the hardest working band....incredible film work and great stills during the credits. HD was good. Loved it.
User ReviewThomas MStarts off with a very forced and strained looking version of the Clash's "London Callin" that is among the most awkard covers I've ever heard. Then goes into a couple of his old standbys. Problem is he blows through them as them in a quick attempt to keep the show moving. Its funny whenever he does his new songs everyone in the audience just stands there looking bored and confused. This is not a great live performance. And why they chose this show to make a dvd of is a mystery. But about an hour into it the boss loosens up a bit and starts having fun again and the show becomes an enjoyable time. Highlight of the show is the E street band performing the song "Waiting on a sunny day" as a duet between Springsteen and a young kid in the front row. Also seeing people with signs saying "I wish I was Courtney Cox right now" during "Dancing in the Dark" was funny. Watch the E Street band reunion tour film from 2000 or Springsteens VH1 Storytellers film for a much better show.
