Leave your thoughts about Broadway Melody of 1940.
Seanax.comSean Axmaker... another ridiculous story that justifies itself in the historic one-time-only pairing of MGM's Queen of Tap Powell and the cinematic grace incarnate Fred Astaire.
User ReviewKat OFred Astaire and Eleanor Powell .. they're simply AMAZING to watch together! The movie itself isn't that great. This pairing gets the 5 star rating.
User ReviewRay J"Tappity Tap Tap Tap Tap!" straight into your heart strings (if you have any). This one is a great entertainer.
User ReviewPatti PMy favourite part was the dancing at the end of the movie.
User ReviewAugustine HAlong with "Swing Time," "Broadway Melody of 1940" might just be Fred Astaire 's greatest picture. The plot is nothing really to write home about, but it is simply impossible to watch Astaire and Powell dance together and not be happy. Sporting some of the best choreography ever seen in cinema (culminating in the renowned "Begin the Beguine") this is a necessity for any fan of musical theater, or Fred Astaire.
User ReviewLeslie AElanore Powell is one of the most brilliantly talented dancers. Now wonder they called her the queen of tap.
User ReviewKIm AA match made in heaven--too bad Astaire and Powell only did the one flick together!
User ReviewMichaela BForward through the acting and get to the dancing sequences. "Begin the Beguine" is one of the classics. And I love both Astaire and George Murphy. Ellie can't act but, boy, can she hoof.
User ReviewJohan AI love this movie for no other reason than Eleanor Powell, the best dancer I have ever seen.
User ReviewAmy VThe only movie Fred Astaire and the great Eleanor Powell made together. George Murphy is wonderful too. The last number, Begin the Beguine is fantastic! (Although Eleanor's ballet number is dismal!)
