He was born in a disappeared city, Rouen, more precisely in the area of Martainville, between poverty and knife fighting. At 8 years old, his father put a monkey on his shoulder and sent him to roam in bars and streets at night, to sell dry fruits.To flee, he took a weird path which brought him to the stall of the market with Gipsies. Now he sends roses. He is multilingual but not admitted by the Academy, a guide not admitted by the storekeepers of the tourist office but knows the dark side of the night suburbs.He speaks four languages, at least, French, Gypsy, slang, backward slang and has notions of Louchebeme, a slang language spoken by butchers. The schnozz in his roses which never smells, we follow him in his quest of a lost manuscript, "Memoirs".We hear the story of the city thanks to his voice and some excerpts of the lost manuscript.We cross the night, from the brightness spotlights of the nightclubs to the rich restaurants through hostess bars. He knows everybody by their first names : from bosses to bouncers. Walking, he tells us two large unknowns : nighttime ( on the whole since the city stands out in areas occupied by tribes who ignore each other) and Rouen the one where proles and bad boys share the sidewalk,at least since 1848, the one where the night shelters the inconceivable alliances during the day offices between Gypsies, Arabs and Gadjé.
