EmanuelLevy.ComEmanuel LevyOne of the weakest films to be nominated for the Best Picture Oscar, this biopic of Edna Gladney is uncharacteristically poorly scripted by Anita Loos and poorly helmed by Mervyn LeRoy.
Time OutTom MilnePretty Technicolor, but the tearjerking is shameless.
Goatdog's MoviesMichael W. Phillips, Jr.So intent on packing as many events as possible into a relatively slim 100 minutes that it can't devote enough time to developing any of them.
VarietyVariety StaffResult is a sentimentally sugary flavor which also extends over the romantic portions of the film. There is no comedy relief.
User ReviewAmy Rthis movie was so incredibly wonderful and so incredibly sad. I just hate all the stuff that happens to her, but in the end it turns out for the best. poor poor woman. and based on a true story while she was still alive. i just find this to be greatly awesome!

User ReviewCynthia PThis was my favorite movie as a child that has since gone missing. It is a wonderful movie that shows how the love of one woman could change the life of a child. I love Greer Garson! The way she stands up for illegitimate children against the government was very inspirational to me as a woman and a teacher. And I will never forget when Tony has to go away...I cried every time. I would say this is an overlooked jewel of a movie that should be more widely circulated.
User ReviewMackenzie SGreer Garson is wonderful. She is once again playing the tragic self sacrificing woman.
