Movie Reviews

Starburst - 7/10 by John HigginsIt's a darkly fun yarn - and another proud example of what can be achieved on a limited budget with talent.
Antagony & Ecstasy - 7/10 by Tim BraytonTurns out that the only thing keeping mummy films from reaching their full potential as troubling stories of murder and psychosis were the mummies.
User Review - 10/10 by Chris CI was frankly surprised by how good this film was. The plot is fun and interesting, performances all perfect, and the special effects brilliant as well. And the suspense is tangible! Highly recommended!
User Review - 8/10 by Carl MThe daughter of a renown Egyptologist is overcome by an ancient evil after receiving a mysterious ring on her birthday. The ring, it turns out, once belonged to a powerful sorceress who bore Margaret's exact likeness. With it, Margaret becomes a living conduit for the soul of the mummified queen, allowing her to return to Earth and exact her revenge against the ones who defiled her grave! BLOOD FROM THE MUMMY'S TOMB is the last in Hammer's line of Mummy pictures, based on Bram Stoker's novel The Jewel of Seven Stars. Although it suffered from a number of unfortunate tragedies throughout its production including the death of director Seth Holt, BLOOD FROM THE MUMMY'S TOMB proves to be one of Hammer's last great pictures. Holt demonstrates a true sense of style, draping the film in a dark mood and creepy atmosphere that rival the work of the great Terence Fisher. The ancient Egyptian crypts are also dressed in lavish colors and impressive set pieces, calling back to the some of the studio's finer pictures. Valerie Leon is given one of her few leading roles as both Margaret Fuchs and the menacing Queen Tera, drawing the audience in with her deep, seductive stares and sensual curves. The added gore, although unnecessary to the film's success, makes this one of Hammer's bloodiest pictures as well. BLOOD FROM THE MUMMY'S TOMB is not to be missed by the fans of Gothic Horror!
User Review - 8/10 by Brett BIn some respects this film seemed to be cursed from its inception,Peter Cushing was due to star but his wife passed away ,and then director Seth Holt died during production forcing Michale Carreras to step in and finish. The final product may not be vinatge Hammer but it still has enough moments to keep your interest high. When Professor Fuchs and his team stumble across as Mummified high Priestess they unravel an ancient curse which will posses Fuchs daughter played by Valerie Leon. The film is a touch shaky in parts and of course by this time Hammer were casting buxom beauties in its leads but that said James Villers is a suitably nasty villian and the curse deaths are nicely done. Its also a neat idea calling one of your characters Tod Browning and your estate agents sign Neame and Skeggs who both worked on the film. While it may not be high grade Hammer its still pretty good viewing and much better than the terrible The Awakening which followed 8 years later.
User Review - 8/10 by Isaac BAnother great hammer film. Oh and the girl in it is hot.
User Review - 8/10 by Chris TLooking forward to seeing this one at City Screen in York, 20/02/09! It's been a long time since I last saw it, but Ms. Leon's luminous presence made a big impression...
User Review - 8/10 by Carl NI think this film has something to do with an archaeological expedition that uncovers the tomb of an ancient, evil, Egyptian queen Tara. Whose sprit inhabits the child (who was just born) of the leader of the expedition? But to be honest every time Valerie Leon is on screen, she is so beautiful and so powerfully attractive that I found it hard to concentrate on other aspects of the film? Not one of Hammers best, but well worth the watch for Leons mesmerising eyes and heaving bosom.
User Review - 8/10 by Private UValerie Leon is great, Hammer should´ve used her more. Michael Carreras never seemed to quite nail it the way that Terence Fisher did.
User Review - 8/10 by Anna NWeird and offbeat adaptation of Stoker's "Jewel of the Seven Stars" from Hammer. Far better than the 1980 version of the story, "The Awakening". Proved that Hammer was still capable of making original and exciting horror films.
