User Reviewmichelleholy shit this movie's messed up!!! can't believe a movie like this was made in 1969. a japanese film about obsession with physical pain. i love it! my favorite japanese film ever!
User ReviewHajime Mperfectly abnormal world that we (japanese) can create like tea ceremony house.dialogue is so beautiful, if you understand japanese.
User ReviewMiguel AThe third act is very philosophical (as well as very disturbing). I've read some of Edogawa Rampo's short stories and i think this film quite successful for establishing the term ' Rampo-esque' in the cinema, including surrealistic touches and psycho-sexual nightmarish perspective that was significance in some of Rampo's stories such as MIRROR HELL and THE CATERPILLAR etc.
User ReviewEdgar CImpactful and depraved descent into irrational madness, with the senses being submitted to the realm of the unreasonable and the unknown for the carnal pleasure of transforming it into something known. That fine line between those two realms is deliciously transgressed for an hour and a half, but hell lasts an eternity. The Oedipal complex is complementary, but not unnecessary, as it is seen during the last unforgettable chapters. 99/100
User ReviewSephira MThe best film I've seen this year!A nude model for a photographer is kidnapped by a blind and deranged sculptor who has a crazed passion of sculpting the perfect woman nude form. She finally agrees to her captors request but indirectly instigates the sculptor to kill his own mother, who's an accomplice of her captivity. However, she gradually falls in love with the blind sculptor until he finished sculpting her nude statue and engages in endless lovemaking in the dark studio until she gradually becomes blind herself. Entranced by orgasm , the two of them started cutting and leaving each other with scars and drinking each other's blood in order to reach their sexual highs. Grisly ending of her begging the blind beast(man) to chop off her arms and legs in order to let her reach her highest peak of orgasm and remain so. Weird, brutal and terribly entrancing film. Never saw a film like this before.Totally awesome!
User ReviewEric RIts still great. This is one of the most bizarre films you are likely to ever see. This is by far the best depiction of sado-masochism I have seen. Its incredibly twisted, dark, and visceral. Definitely not for everyone but what an amazing film
User ReviewDimitris SAn achievement of sizzling moments, irrational behavior and savoring...for real the flesh and blood of two human carnivores. The transparent symbolism is obvious.Man will never survive without a guide be it an obnoxious yet incredibly smart art model or the Oedipal complex and the ones who see will unwillingly shout their despair in the form of sexual madness.
User ReviewRyan Ma great older movie that seems newer than it is - a blind man abducts a model and things get real freaky - great movie
