Chicago Reader - 2/10 by Ted ShenUnfortunately, the acting is wildly uneven, from Michael Wong's irremediably wooden performance as the clean cop to Anthony Wong's insightful portrayal of the dirty one, a man who treats the mobsters on his watch like blood brothers.

Deserves all the acclaim it gets, a great look at police corruption. The fact that I love this film when I was expecting it to be a horror movie (my favourite genre) and it turned out to be a drama speaks very highly of it indeedydoo.

Shot and set right after Hong Kong's return to Chinese rule in 1998, Beast Cops examines the day to day lives of 3 police officers and how they explore they grey sides of it all both professionally and personally. Anthony Wong delivers what may be the finest performance in the history of Hong Kong cinema. With excellent drama, some elements of action and even a drop of horror, Beast Cops is one of the films you must see.

The film blends the action, drama and comedy really well, and with the way the narrative plays more around the 3 cops lives rather than the case works extremely well. The cinematography and locations really set the mood with a lot of night shots, neon lights and dingy apartments The last action scene is pretty mindblowing and worth watching the whole movie for recommended
