Wimpie Koekemoer--the biggest geek in school. He is constantly embarrassed by his conservative mother and his strange father, especially in front of girls. Wimpie dreams of being popular. His dream could unexpectedly become a reality when the most popular girl in school, Katrien Swanepoel, is dumped by first-team rugby centre Werner 'Killer' Botha. Katrien and her friends Liezl and Christie decide to give Werner a taste of his own medicine by planning to make Wimpie the new first team centre. Rugby is a lot harder than Karien and Wimpie anticipated and Wimpie almost gives up. Fortunately, his unexpected popularity leads to friendship with school rascals Japie and Fanie. The mischievous duo unknowingly convince Wimpie to keep playing rugby although they're much more interested in pajama parties with girls. Bakgat is finding yourself, despite high school.

User Review - 10/10 by Christo AThe film that basically jump-started an industry that was thought to be-long dead. The first decent Afrikaans film since Paljas (1997) and probably the first major-release one as well. The once booming Afrikaans film industry suffered a massive decline in popularity in the 90s due to the fall of Apartheid, and apart from a couple of Leon Schuster movies, no Afrikaans films were made after Paljas until Bakgat. And ever since then, the Afrikaans film industry has been reinvigorated and reinvented, with new films gaining popularity. The characters were copy-and-pasted from typical American comedies, but with a fresh South African twist that is undeniably charming. The word "bakgat" means "fantastic/outrageous/cool/hilarious" and that's exactly what this film was. And it's sequels are just as good.
User Review - 10/10 by Rob HI really enjoyed watching the movie, I really wish the schools in the uk were like Suid Afrikan schools.
User Review - 10/10 by Patrick WThis is the most funnies Movie I have seen in a long time. From the beginning right to the end it will have you in stitches. If you suffer from high blood pressure or heart problems then dont bother watch it, you may get your self into a situation you dont want to be in, straining your heart. An if you think that you can do 100 sit ups a day be warned after you have watched this move you would have felt like you have just done 600 of them, as you would have laugh so much that your stomach muscles are so sore from so much laughter. Just one thing the Problem with South Africa movies, is that they focus on only the South African market. Its a pity though, because this movie gives American Pie a run for its money by far. How about making a English version of this movie? Leon Schuter should try make, movies like this one. Then we talking Local is Lekker (Nice)
User Review - 8/10 by D'Shorne HThis movie really brings back memories of home... It's really funny and is like any other teen comedy from the States but with a unique South African flavour. It did however loose a star for lack of originality, the plot follows your typical zero to hero feel. But non the less there were parts which made me laugh out loud and I would recommend this movie to any South African (it would help to understand Afrikaans, but there are subtitles if you own the DVD)
User Review - 6/10 by Herman LNot half bad and funny too. But you have to be Afrikaans to get it.
User Review - 2/10 by Dwayne LDie grootste gemors sedert "Kaalgat tussen die Daisies"
